Wheel sizes and tyres?

Hi all following my sons advice who has told me you are all the fountain of knowledge I am hoping to clarify whether I can use 18" wheels with 225/40/18 or even 235/40/18 tyres on a Z4 without them catching wheel linings etc?

Basically I want to buy some winter wheels and I have a chance of some 18" 8.5j wheels from a 3 series fairly cheaply but want to know they will work on the Z4 without catching anything? (standard 2.5 roadster.)

Are 225 tyres suitable or should they be 235 or does it not matter? If anybody has already gone down this route i'd appreciate any help with suggestions for winter tyres.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Pretty sure you'll be fine. 225/45/18 is standard fit on the front of the M and I believe someone is running 235/45/18 on the front with no problem.

I'm currently running 265/40/18 rears with no problems (255/40/18 is the M standard size)

I think all Z4s have pretty much the same space under the wheel arches, and the overall tyre diameters on non-Ms are only slightly smaller (225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear If i remember correctly).

Hope the winter's a bit away yet though :D

Hi Angus well thanks for that a big help. I've decided to get prepared early seeing as how the last 2 winters the Z4 has been stuck on the drive and I bet the prices go up as we get nearer! I'll get the 225/40/18 tyres as they are cheapest. Cheers.

You could run 225/40 all round for winter tyres, but 18s are still expensive. Someone on here was selling a cheap set of 16s, would do fine for winter tyres.

What wheels are they?

They are MV1's. Not bothered what they look like because they'll be covered in muck anyway. I researched 16 inch snow tyres and found very few. Apparently there is not a big demand for that size. I was surpassed too!
