Wheel refurbishment advice! Urgent!

Hi all,

I had the wheels on my Z4 refurbished last week. The job over all is fantastic...HOWEVER...around the wheel bolts holes to me doesn't look right or like it has been finished properly.

Whats the opinion from others that have had their 108s refurbished?

(The only defence for this is that the wheels were in pretty bad condition when they went in)

Thoughts?

Images are up, but on the large side.

Personally OP:
I'd of liked to of seen both, the Before & After - Refurbishment images...

Just sayin': You may then, get a true reflection of the achievements, of the Refurbishment Company efforts :?

They at least look to have been split down, - as the circa 20 BBS titanium bolts, do not look as if they're been painted or powder coated over, which is a positive IMHO

Cheers

Also a decent tyre place should be able to set their balancing machine so it can split the weights and hide them behind the spokes.

They were split down, dipped and lightly sand blasted.

Then the normal painting process, diamond cut and 2 coats of lacquer.

The company I used gave this as the reason for the above images: Around the bolt holes they cannot take away material at the hub/around the bolt holes as this will adjust the hub thickness for when bolting back on-the car. The condition around this area was quite bad so it can only be dipped and sand blasted. They said even painting in that area is normally on the thin side due to the narrow/small space they have to work with.

I can sympathise with what they are saying, and it does make sense. However taking 0.5-mm out of the surround bolts surfaces I cannot see making a big difference to anything, as the corrosion has already started this process - hence the uneven finish.

I paid £300 cash for this service, which is good compared to other companies I guess.

They are willing to take a look at the wheels again this week (not necessarily do anything), but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue when refurbishing a wheel before?

Did they split the rims or did you have to split them yourselves?

£300 is very reasonable if they did the splitting.

Regarding the bolt holes, i think they could have been done better, even with sanding down by hand.

Could you let me know where you got the wheels refurbed please as I'm in kent and would be interested in getting mine done. PM if you don't want to state on here.

Yes, the company split them, dipped, sand blasted.

Then painting process and diamond cut, reassembled, tyre fitted, fitted to the car. They also cleaned up each perimiter rim bolt, balanced them. The tyre were also heated up in the oven when being sitted so they didnt put any stress on the new paint.

Like i saud, everything else they did was unberlieveable! Which is why around the bolt holes is a bit dissapointing.

Sure, I will PM you.

Thanks

Thanks for the PM.

Personally I wouldn't be too worried about the bolt holes. I've got chrome plastic nut covers on my 107's which would finish off your wheels.

I could live with that for £300. Amazing price for split + diamond polish.

Is the rim Diamond cut? Bit hard to tell from the photo... maybe it’s my iPad :?

If that outer barrel has been diamond cut & clear lacquered, I'd be hoping for a different finish - compared, to the the 5 pointed Star centre piece :?

Well yes, me too... it’s just that the OP mentions Diamond cutting in one of his posts :?
