Wheel Refurb: Paint or Powder Coat ?

I've read on more than a few threads that owners are having their wheels refurbished.

I'm wondering how many are having the wheels painted and how many are having them powder coated.

I guess it would be a nice winter project. Personally I would prefer powder coating as it is a tougher finish. I think it is the rare tire shop who changes a tire without affecting the wheel to some extent.

I know there are some pretty tough paints out there today too.

Any info from people who have had the refurb quoted both ways and if so what was the difference in cost.

If you had yours painted did you have the tire removed first (the only right way to do it IMO). Of course the tire would have to be removed for powder coating.

Powder coating is as you say a tough finish the only down side I know of is you cannot have a smart repair done as you can with painted wheels I have the same prob having a diamond cut rim on my 108s I have to stay away from kerbs

I've tried both routes over the years on different cars. I would only powder coat mine now, and you can get smart repairs done on them

I had mine powder coated last week. I managed to kerb one while on holiday last year and did another a couple of weeks ago. :headbang: I don’t know the price difference as I only had the one quote but mine cost £360 for all 4 wheels. I took my car over to them and they removed the wheels, tyres etc and then refitted and balanced. I’m very pleased with the result. My job for today is to ceramic coat them so hopefully they will be easier to keep looking good.

That's not too bad a price for all of that. I like the fact that they did everything for that price. I need to look around near me and see if anyone offers a similar service.
