Wheel nut stud conversion. Security.

Guys. I have a stud conversion set ready for install but was wondering about wheel security.
My wheels are hardly rare or expensive, and I live in a fairly risk free area (famous last words).

Do folk bother about wheel theft anymore, is it really a thing nowadays?

Anyway, if I do decide to add some sort of security, I can use my existing locking nuts by just intalling 4 of the studs and leaving a hole free for the original locker ?
I assume that will be OK, yeah?

I abandoned locking wheel nuts ages ago. If you are a DIYer and have your wheels off a lot, they make no sense. To be fair I live out in the sticks, but I’ve never heard of anyone having wheels stolen off their car.

In cities they are going to take the complete car as it is quicker and easier then use the car for the porpoise it was taken for ie drugs job, ram raid, joy riding etc

Colleagues at work had his Golf GTD stollen for use in a drugs job it was used to run someone involved in drugs over then left to be found

Also depend what drugs they had taken it could be the right spelling

Apologies, couldn't resist.

You know engineer don't do spelling
Before, I couldn't even spell Teknishun. Now I are one.

And of course, now you're helping me with the ABS bleeding thread I feel even more guilty.

I think the only wheels that might get stolen these days are 22" range rover wheels, but then, it's so easy to nick the entire car a crim would just do that.

In the unlikely event a crim was looking to just steal wheels, no wheel theft deterent would slow them down anyway.

I curse BMW wheel bolts every time I've changed wheels on any of mine. :headbang:

If I was fitting a stud conversion no way would I want to use any bolts!

I also don't think wheel theft is a thing any more, but those locking nuts in TheDan's post would give you some security if you wanted peace of mind.

My CSL’s survived two years in my 335i without being stolen. I ditched the locking wheel nuts on that pretty quickly. My wife’s 330i still as it’s 216’s, again no locking wheel bits on that either.

I think wheel theft was more a thing of the past. Nowadays, it seems to be the car they take.
I don't have locking wheel nuts on my daily driver Q5 with 20inch wheels. I think I have locking wheel nuts on the Z4 but I might even remove the locking nut because I got a full new set of bolts when I bought the wheels.
