Wheel nut length

I suspect the answer will be 'yes..I can't believe you just asked that', but wanted to make sure!

The wheel nuts I have for my aftermarket alloys are maybe 7-8mm longer than the BMW ones.

I assume it's not safe to use the BMW ones?

Basically - the aftermarket locking nut key is awful and I keep rounding it when I take my wheels off (ie every time I wash the car!), so wanted to know whether safe to go back to the BMW ones.

I would have thought that the BMW locking wheel bolt would be OK. However, as a precaution, I would get it to just engage and then count the number of turns before it is fully tightened and then take it out and see the length that the recorded number of turns gives you.
