Wheel nut keys... Any point???

Anyone got an opinion on these. My Old ones are becoming a bit battered. Not sure whether to buy new, or just replace with standard nuts...

I was always paranoid of having the wheels stolen if I didnt have the keys installed... But if someone really wants to steal them surely they can just have a stock of a few different types of keys...
 
Never bother with them unless they are already fitted - gone are the days when alloys were like gold dust, and had to be protected against theives.
 
When I lost my wheel nut key it took my local garage about 2 mins to remove all the wheels, without any special tools or a key nut. I still bought another set off flea bay but to be honest I was just buying a placebo? If someone was out to nick your wheels the lock nuts make next to know difference.
 
agreed, I actively took the lockers off my z4 as it made switching wheels so much easier not having to faff around with a locking nut.

and even when I bought shiny new alloys for my roadcar I did away with the lockers. if crims want the wheels, locking nuts isn't going to stop them.
 
My current Z4 didn't have them, then I saw a set of non-BMW locking nuts on here so I bought them.

Quite glad I did as I then bought a set of 295 wheels which are no longer available, so hopefully they make life a little harder for any scum-bags to get them off - but not much when you can buy kits to remove locking nuts online. :(

But I can't remember the last time I saw a car at the side of the road with no wheels!
 
People just take the whole car now and strip it in a garage. Locking wheel bolts are a deterrent of course, but one for a problem that isn't really there anymore.
 
I always thought locking wheel bolts was more about keeping the insurance companies happy than the vehicle owner.

Car manufacturers do everything they can to cut manufacturing costs, yet they never do away with the locks. The locks are part of the Thatcham rating that determins insurance costs.
 
they might detour some young thief without a clue, or where someone might not want to make a noise, like a impact wrench going off.

but these days some ppl dont give a sh*t and would just threaten ppl with knifes untill theyve got wat they want.

There was a vid on fb of someone trying to blow torce though PVC style door and owners came to window above filming saying theyve called cops, and still they didnt stop just saying give keys and we`ll stop
