Wheel Couriers

I have just bought a set of alloys with tyres which I will use for the X5 for winter wheels / tyres.

The option is either to drive 110 miles (each way) to collect the wheels, or get them couriered. Just concerned that with a courier, the wheels could get damaged?

Anybody used couriers with satisfaction or does it all depend on how well the seller wraps them ...

Hey PVR I've shipped many sets around including new X5 wheels with tyres.

I recommend getting the seller to tape a circle of cardboard to the face of each wheel and then either wrap each in a bin liner and label or tape them face to face in pairs depending on rim shape. Then they will be as safe as houses.

Never had any damage and it's just not cost effective on time and petrol to drive.

I've had car (103s) and motorbike wheels sent with no issues... as usual CJ's advice is spot on. One lot put bubble wrap over the face.

If you're worried about their courier there was a post on here in the last few months where people named couriers they'd used - I believe it was specifically for wheels.

The seller has asked me to organise a courier, so I can use whatever I like. The one advertising on ebay seems to be about £35 + vat for 4 big wheels up to 30 Kg. I have no idea how heavy an X5 wheel is though ...

Actually a pretty good price for a 1 off delivery!

Do you not have a courier for your company? I think I remember something in IT just wasn't sure if you ship product. We use CityLink, I occasionally send stuff /collect through them and it's a fixed price.

This might help...

I've used Paisley Freight many times and no probs. but frankly they are all just booking agencies and the wheels get delivered by City Couriers or any of the other big nationals. Just shop on price.

30 kg could be tight if you assume 20kg for the wheel and 10kg for the tyre and both those sound light.

Frankly I don't think they check. I booked petrol chipper and the manufacturers weight was 120kg including al the palet so I checked it in at 90kg and it came through without question.

I've used Paisley Freight before too and was very happy - but as CJ said they are just an agent and I think it was City Link that delivered:

To get the best prices on courier delivery Parcel2Go is great:

ive also used http://www.parcel2go.com really easy to use and the service has proven excellent everytime. i think i send my old set of 108's with tyres for about £32.00.

I actually drove down and picked up the wheels myself in the end. The weight of the X5 wheels makes them fall into the "truck" category of pricing.

It was, uh, rather interesting to drive in the New Forest in the snow ...

Well ive bought a set of 16" alloys with tyres for the better halves beetle cab. Need to sort a courier but any one any ideas on the weight of 4 16" ALLOYS? also is it best to pack the four seperatly or as 2 packages as cj suggests?
Ta muchly- will post pics of her car once ive surprised her and the wheels are on. :driving:

I‘ve been searching around the web for guide on which package carrier to use, because I have 8 wheels to send and want the lowest fares available, my friend mentioned this, but I‘m not so sure, if anyone has other suggestions, I‘d be glad to hear them, thank you in advance.

Holy thread revival lol..

I have recently had a set of four 19" wheels with tyres sent via Simpsons Transport from Scarborough. I used an economy service which took a week or ten days to deliver, but the service was excellent. Cost £65 from memory. No need to package, as they individually blanket wrap the wheels. Having said that I did put cardboard discs across the faces to minimise the potential for damage.
