Wheel bolt torque settings

I've already read the posts that says '74 FT-lbs or 100 Nm'.

I've used these settings but it seems a bit low to me. Aren't most cars around 120 Nm?

Don't rely on posts, have a look at TIS. Would post the proof but no access to PC. Should be findable with Google.

I searched this question for my E46 when I bought a set of winters and was told 120Nm for all non X-Model BMWs.

I've used that setting for two years now and not had one fall off yet! :lol:

A bit OT, but get yourself a 1/2 socket adaptor for a cordless drill. Like this.

Exactly this, I have an electric screwdriver with a hex to square adapter. About 5 times quicker!

70lbft here, checked with a torque wrench on regular intervals.

never needed to re tighten they often seem to tighten up a bit by themselves.

Except that isn't to spec at approx 100 Nm. 120 Nm +/-10.
90 lbf ft is more like it, if a smidge over but within range.

It is under spec as you say but it's never caused a problem on any of my Beemers, I still run my 320 at those settings.

Looking at that it seems to be what the AA recommend for their "AA Multi-Fit Wheel" with a spacer, but that isn't the same as what is required using OEM BMW wheels!

I'll up the anti by 20Nm

Find out if that is a dry setting or lubed, if you use any copper grease or graphite you may be over tightening.

Good idea - it isn't like 120Nm feels excessive.

After I last had tyres fitted they must have been tightened to way over 150 - why do all tyre depots feel compelled to do that? :evil:

Same as that. I had to get a piece of tubing to slide over my wheel brace to get them undone. I guess they're paranoid in case the wheels fall off. The 'better safe than sorry' torque setting. :evil:
