Wheel alignment/ Inspection 1 costs

Called local dealer yesterday (Banstead Surrey) asking about inspection 1 costs and wheel alignment. Was told £368 for inspection is that about right? Also was told £350 for alignment :o and given some story about it only being able to be done properly at a dealer as they have some special machine, is this correct? Can I really not get alignment done cheaper elsewhere?

My god! Arse in air "yes please"!!!

Ins one is a bit high, but about right from a dealer i spose, i always use BMW specialists so never pay that. And the alignment is almost right, as some places cant do BMW's for some reason. But again i use a place who makes the alignment machines, so they do it for £50 for me :)
 
Anywhere that has a hunter machine can do your alignment. Usually costs around £60-£120. I paid £80.

Not sure about the Inspection cost as I've not needed to do one yet, but I found Scothall Ruslip to charge the least for an oil service.

Bit of trek but might be worth it as the alignment place I went to isn't far from their so you could possibly get both done in a day?
 
Thanks, where exactly was the alignment place with the Hunter machine that you mention? I'd much rather pay £80 than £350!
 
Thick question alert (and sorry to hijack thread)...

Is there a difference between alignment and laser tracking? I used to get tracking checked when I had tyres replaced on my previous car and it would only cost about £30 to have it adjusted...

Why the difference?

Tracking is normally the front wheels, which any place can do. But with BM's you need a 4 wheel alignment, so not many have this strangely.

BTW, they initally wanted to charge me £120, but I managed to take it down to £80 (cash).

Scothall Dealer is at UB6 7HQ and is a 15 min drive.

That is fooking crazy! When i had my coilovers i did mine alignment 4 times to get the camber spot on. Not paying £1400 for it :D
 
i use these guys for alot (http://www.southalldiscounttyres.co.uk/) mainly for tyre/brake fitting etc. I think they also have one of these 'hunter' machines which starts at around £30 (iirc) for basic diagnostics then i think they charge for any adjustment made etc..
 
I had my inspection 1 done last Friday for £270 that was Peter Vardy Edinburgh who price matched DL group.

My last KDS was £190, so don't know why some places are charging £350 for 45 minutes work.
