Wheel advice

Hi all,

Just after a little wheel advice as I've gone rusty on alloys and offsets etc. I'm thinking of replacing the wheels on the Z3, current ones have been on for 3 years or so and noticed the one is starting to corrode around the centre cap, nothing serious as yet. They are 8x18s with ET41 offset, factory wheels were 7.5x17 front and 8.5x17 rear ET41. Reason I went for them was the stainless steel rim so fares a little better during winter use. I'm surprised they have lasted as well as they have as they were around 400 quid the set new.

I quite fancy some BBS wheels and seen these, I think they might have been an option on the MK1 TT years back?

It says they will fit my car but take that with a pinch of salt. These are ET38. Am I right in thinking these wheels will protrude out by 3mm? over what I currently have ET41. Also wondering about front strut clearance with them being an 8.5 width. Would be fitting 225/40 front and rear.

I've never had split rims before so also wandering how these would hold up if used throughout the winter, salt etc.

Thanks for any pointers,

Tim.

They did fit them on Anniversary Golf MK4s & to some V6 TTs , nice wheel Tim
225 tyre is a little stretched on a 8.5j though :?
Have refurbed a few sets of these & in general i would say less prone to the 108 issues possibly due to the style where the rimbolts sit ?

Pretty sure a forum member has the wheels you have linked on his Z4 but can't remember who ? Possibly had it for sale in last few months :?

Thanks Mr Wilks, the wheel does look lovely and I'm always a sucker for the centre caps which appeals.

A 225 tyre will fit on an 8.5 rim ok, its just a slightly more stretch so you lose a little rim protection.

The genuine AC Schnitzers I had on before were 8.5x18 allround, ACS recommended 225/40 on the front and went with 265 on the rears but I did have 7mm spacers frot and rear to bring the wheels out a little. The Zed was never happy though as it seemed to tramline a fair bit but I did have Falken tyres fitted and wondered if they were to blame.

Replacing the original Factory Type 78s back in 2010

One of the reason I like the BBS alloys is they don't look too disimilar to original factory alloys.
