What's your preferred TYRE PATTERN

Just interested to know if you have a preference to the style and design of your tyre treads? I've always found my eyes drawn to these on cars especially when stationary and looking from behind. I've been lucky enough to experience all the above, but always come back to the directional pattern style, I'm certain many on the forum share my passion for documenting and experiencing the "thrill" that various tyre patterns can offer but are probably to embarrassed to confess.lve been very lucky to add a few race worn GT slicks to my tyre collection (proud to say I've catalouged and kept at least one of every tyre pattern I've been fortunate to own) .
I'm sure you'd love to know my most favourite in my collection? A massive Dodge Viper GTS/R rear slicks made by Dunlop, obtained at the Gt Championship race at Donnington Park back in 2002.
 
Never one to kink shame a rubber fetish, whatever works for you!

Slightly controversially i used to mix and match... directional fronts, assymetric rears. Thinking being the fronts do steering, rears provide the power.

But now i just go for whichever is best, which on road tyres tends to be assymetric. But my next track tyre will be directional.

I do like going to a trackday and seeing what rubber other cars are running... serious tyres like toyo R888R or nankang AR1s always get an admiring 'ooooh'...
 
The directional ones scream winter tyres to me and the Symmetric, Asymmetric ones look like summer "performance" tyres.

As for what tyres my z4 is wearing I have a set of PS4, rears have gotten down to 5mm (Since 2021) and the fronts are brand spanking new. Wondering if I should bother with a tyre rotation before winter or hold out for the spring.

I only know about the AR1s as Misha (king of the ring) seems to get pretty excited when a car has AR1s or Cup2-R (unless its a rainy day at the ring)

tyre rotation is a sensible idea if you are heavy with the right foot :thumbsup:

Toyota R888R are on my which list for sure :thumbsup:

Are you able to reverse, though?

I have always been a fan of black, round tyres TBH! :thumbsup:
 
I've only ever had one set of Directional tyres, Michelin Alpin winters. They were a PITA - one year I had fitted them all before I noticed I had got two on the wrong way round! :banghead: :oops:

But other than that I've never really been bothered so long as they performed well. I've currently got a set of Symmetric Kumhos on my Z4 and am very pleased with them.

This is a serious topic, as we all know (some to their regret)without quality rubber being used any number of unexpected or unplanned accidents can happen. Good quality rubber keeps you safe :thumbsup:
