Whats under the front number plate plinth?

I'm being a little lazy, but also want to know what I'll find behind the front number plate plinth?
I want to put a smaller plate on the front and get rid of the plinth altogether.

Is it screwed on? will it leave me with two holes. Are the holes either end of the plinth or more central?
I'm trying to figure out if the new smaller plate will cover the holes.
 
Sorry, been a long day - I believe they are held on with 3 screws. Cj10jeeper has a shorter plate, not sure if his covers them or he had to fill and spray.
 
Mine is riveted on I think.

Small plate is asking for trouble tho. I know some people get away with it but not sure it's worth it.

I've had this one on many cars for many years and had no problems. I've been stopped a couple of times and have a full size one in the car and explain the car has just been in a show so its on show plates. I've run out of stickers to put the other on on. Been lucky and they go into one chatting about the car and other cars :)
 
shorter plates are legal- so long as letters are spaced and theres a certain mm of white at each end (can't remember the exact figure)
 
Ive just taken mine off, there are 6 rivets holding it on, unfortunately i dont think a smaller plate will cover the holes, the bumper looks alot better with the plate holder removed, oh and the plate!!! :evil:

Looks like this is all just about covered.
Only way to hide backing plate holes is fill and respray.

Made mine really neat by chopping down the backing plate and plastic welding it back together.
My 5 digit smaller plate is 100% legal. Correct font, spacing, border edges, bs# and makers postcode.
Being running 3 such plates on different cars for about 6 years.
