I replaced my battery in Winter with a new one and it has vents on it. Usually when purchasing there's 2 small holes on either end of the battery, generally with a red plug in them (certainly the case with batteries delivered in the mail). You're meant to remove one and replace it with the vent tube.Vijay said:Since we're discussing the battery compartment...
There a grey tube on the left. I think I read somewhere earlier that its to expel gasses from the battery. Was this only for older batteries, as I can't see an obvious place in this, relatively newer battery replaced by previous owner...?

Thanks for the steer!mjennings23 said:As above, should be a plastic 90 degree bend. You can get them on ebay called battery vent tubes etc, cheap and cheerful. The chances of needing it in a modern car is low, as a battery would only really off-gas when overcharged quite significantly. However, if they DO off-gas, its really rather explosive so, best be safe!

Are they all a standard size?....
