What's this thing?

I whipped the radio out tonight to see how to connect my Ipod box. I found this little black box behind the radio, loose. Anyone know what it is? Some sort of amplifier?

Looks the same as this Audio Line Level Converter Output HI LOW LEVEL on fleabay, although not quite sure what it actually does.

Yes, looks like the same thing. Maybe it leads to an amplifier. Will see if I can trace the wires.

wild guess but i suspect it takes an amplified signal and makes it a non amplified signal so that it can go into an amplifier .. sort of doing the same job as a pre out (and im probably talking rubbish)

looks like you have an amp somewhere, that is taking the speaker wires from your headunit and outputing as RCAs to go to an amp

its basically a resistor inside a big box.

On another note, those are good quality RCA cables.

Connection by Audison kit is great!
