Whats this for??!

This socket/hole/thingy is residing in the ashtray but has no apparent function- what is it for? Stubbing out cigarellos for all you wife swappers out there?!

I have wondered what that was for...... Fantastic Volvo by the way. Took me back to my childhood when I was about six or seven, my mother had one in white.
 
Isn't it to pop your cig into when its not finished, or to stub it out?

Not being a smoker - that's what I thought it was for anyway :)

Ive completly rebuilt it from the ground up. Lot of work on the engine and it plods along nicely now.
Lot were in white but we all know why that was :wink:
When I resprayed it I thought about AM silver birch but decided in the end to stay original

Accosories brochure 2005 leads me to believe its for a halogen reading lamp which plugs int there and is on a flexy stand.

That plugs into the cigar lighter. This item is next to the lighter and the general consensus it that its for those gay small cigars some people smoke
 
I saw this post ages ago and I could'nt work out what the hole was for either. I contacted BMW who have responded. The hole is 'to ensure a cigarette is completely extinguished before disposing of it in the ashray, it is illuminated in order to aid location in the dark'. There you go.... its a stubber
