Hi guys, when I bought this car, the previous owner included this in the sale. What is it, and what can I do wth it?
It's has a USB on one end, an another port connector on the other, I have a laptop that I don't use anymore, can I check faults etc with it? What else can I do?

Many thanks.

It looks like a Carly, as I said - BUT there is no label on it, could be a generic?

It "may" work with laptop if it's a generic, but you'll need some software.

I remember you telling me last week, but it went straight over my head! Where do I get the software Mike, and what can I do with it?

That is a generic one, should have come with a CD as well. I gave mine to Bing when he borrowed my car. Ungrateful git never thanked me for it

Certainly a CAN bus cable, but without the CD and drivers/software close to useless

I'd just buy a BMCables from Ebay that will come with extensive software and you can be sure all works correctly

FYI - the end you don't recognise plugs into the OBD port on the RHS of the underside of the dash, not far from the boot opening button. Open the small flap and it plugs in

Simon,

This is the correct cable for the BMW software for your car. I have a lap top with it installed which was a complete swine to configure. There are two OBDII connector leads for the software one being blue the other black. Not sure what the difference is though. The software enables access to fault codes etc and is complicated to get working correctly.

I did not sell this with the vehicle as it was remotely installed on my Tough Book and computer is needed! Unless you are going to delve into software/diagnostic side I would bin it.

Any questions give me a bell.

Thanks guys.

Chris, looks like it's going in the bin then... I trust the new car is going well and you're still chuffed.?? I've had the bumper resprayed on the Zed, along with the wing and a new light after that altercation with a hit and run... looks good as new now.

One last question for those in the know, can I code the car to allow for one touch roof operation??

No - you need a Gaptech unit for that to use the one touch (or an eOpen).

I think it can be coded to go down, but not up off the key. A Gaptech RCH+ module does all that and more..

Down - yes, but only via holding the button on the key, or turning the key in the lock and hold it. Not one touch though.

Simon,

I will have a look for the discs and if I have them I will forward them to you. I had a computer whizz kid configure the software remotely to get it to work. (Between levels of Halo 3) The software was a swine to get to work but when it did was quite informative.

Re the car, it has been at Source Sounds having a full digital system fitted. Hope to get her back next week. Will send you a few pics when completed.

Possibly additional mids in the rear to allow for roof down. Rear view camera install. Menus and control via vehicle controls. Graphical interface through the vehicles own display screen. Cant wait.
