Whats this broken part?

Took the wheels off and stripped down the brakes today to try and get to the bottom of my squeaky brakes, which I seem to have done. However in the process I found this broken piece in the driver side wheel arch. Not sure if it's a sensor or what but I've not noticed any problems so no idea.

That's the self leveling adjuster for your Xenons.

To test, turn your lights on and see if they adjust on startup. If not then that's confirmed.

Yep was the self leveller, thanks guys.

Next question, how to fix?

What was the problem of the squeak?

+1

Was getting a proper minging squeak from my brakes whenever I braked below about 20mph. Changed the pads two weeks ago but still had the same problem even after letting them bed in. I initially thought it was the lip on the disc causing it so was going to sand them down, but having stripped them down I noticed a fair bit of play between the pads and disc when put together, just didn't seem to fit right, as if the metal had been warped out or something. So I just cleaned it all out, sanded the lip slightly to smooth it over, mega greased it up to try and add a layer between any play, then tightened up the caliper and pads as much as I physically could. Somewhere between all that it seems to have worked :)

Anyone had this problem before then? Is it just a case of getting a new sensor rod part and replacing the part completely or what? If so what part do I need to be getting.

Ta in advance x

Thanks srhutch.

So nobody else had this issue before or any idea of what's involved in repairing?

Cheers.

Chatting to myself here but ah well.

Spoke to batemans and showed them the four pictures and they told me id need the full sensor unit at 75 quid ish.

Then I spoke to neil at sopers who told me if I do need that part they can do it for 65 but it sounds like I only need the connector rod bit thats about a tenner. Hes going to take a look at the picture and im going to try and investigate it properly when I can get it jacked up tomorrow and he'llget back to me with a recommendation.

So full marks to sopers and well worth ringing them either way.

You're not chatting with yourself, with 239 views so far, we're just listening intently. :tumbleweed:
I do believe you can just replace the linkage, the sensor itself should be fine. But one can only be sure with an up close inspection of the damage. I've heard good things before about Sopers, not that it does me any good.

Looks like I will have to replace the whole unit sadly, £62.48 with free delivery from Sopers which isn't too bad I suppose, just hoping I can do the repair myself.

Got the part today from Sopers, 64 quid ish.

I'll take some pics tomorrow when I fit it in case they come in handy for anyone in the future.
