What's the worst car you adored when you were younger?

Just turned 17 and my neighbour gave me a lift home in her Blue Saxo VTR, I thought it was a beaut  at the time, my Dad was having none of it!

Ford Capri was my dream, luckily I got to borrow one for a few days and realised how crap it was.

Is there something about never driving your dream car? Well I have never driven one, and I suspect that the reality would not be great but the Citroen DS was my dream car as a kid. The swooping lines and headlights that follow the steering - it was like a spaceship. If I won the lotto I would buy one to look at, but probably not drive.

Growing up in the Cowley area of Oxford in the 70's near the old Morris Car factory which was at that time British Leyland, meant that my local streets were strewn with every automotive abomination know to man kind.

Apart from my best mates older brother, who had a Marina coupe TC. I swear it's the fastest car I've ever been in! And I didn't realise it at the time but it looks like a Mustang fast back doesn't it

How can you say the DS is the worst car you've ever lusted after? It's design is beautiful and unique and it was way ahead of its time. It's a brilliant car!! :)

Once drove one of those beasts. To this day the funniest driving experience of my life :D.

The steering wheel had about 15 turns lock to lock.

The air suspension was the pre-cursor to the hyrdraualic cars jumping at traffic lights and was a hoot.

But by far the best bit was the brakes.

See the the round ball thing on the floor pan - that's the brake pedal. Operates pretty much like a 4 ton anchor - go anywhere near that ball and the brakes slammed on.

Absolute hoot of a thing to drive :D

Well, I quite agree with what you say, I did lust after it as a kid. I think its the worst car as all others were Italian!

I wish the new DS (A brand in its own right now) was as futuristic as the original.

I also really really liked the 406 coupe... So I bought one...

Still love the looks of it, but served as proof to me that French components + Italian assembly = total recipe for disaster. Had the 3.0 V6 was a pretty great car when it was all working but the electrics were a complete mess, the alarm had a mind of its own, the windows sometimes decided to open of their own accord, the seats were fully electric (nice touch) but also really slow so if you wanted to let someone into the back you had to wait for the seat to slide forward which took bloody ages and le piece de resistance, occasionally if you had something plugged into the 12v socket it would set on fire
