runs out of puff??? something's wrong with your car, or you're in the wrong gear!
getting to 140 is a piece of pee in mine.

x2!

x3! mine went all the way to 160mph(end of the dial),and kept pulling for a fair bit/b4 running out of road, out my back door :D
it gets to 100/120 with the easiest of touches on the rt pedal/sport button on of course :driving:

95 ron isn't going to help, but still..
I'm guessing you were hitting the limiter?

That would tally with the fact it steamed upto 150 in no time yet wouldnt gain a single extra mph beyond that despite unlimited tarmac at WOT.

...hmmm
Well considering a e46 330ci does around 163 mph delimited ... I would say the z4 3.0 would do ATLEAST this (if the gearing is the same) and also get there ALOT quicker since its 200KG ligther which is a hell of a lot considering they've got the same engine.

i'm sure i read its ment to be 155mph but its runs out of puff much past 110-120 for me to bother to find out, i miss high end acceleration you get from turbo's

Huh?

Most single turbo car's are terrible at top end speed's due to there characteristics…

They normally are not very high reving… having max power 5500-6000k revs on most dynoes.. but more importantly they have a disgusting lump of a Torque in the middle of the rev range.. suddenly boosting up at 2-3k and dies out at 4k…. say when you at 130-140mph going for gold at 5k rpm your torques probably dropped 50-60ft lbs…not good for trying to pull top speed attempts.. ok from 0-130-140..as you got an extra gear to get the engine into that massive torque but at higher speeds you don’t …So a lot of turbos car’s I’ve been in have rapid acceleration then kind of hit a brick wall so to speak as the torque completely drops out

Where’s a naturally aspirated engine generally has a better zest for revs… say the z4…

It has around 90% of torque at 2k … all the way to 6000… (max power).. peaks at 3.5 k odd but not by much so it never drops off really

The perfect engine has a flat torque curve across the whole rev range and a nice smooth rise of POWER up the revs…probably why the m54 got so many engine awards and nominations…In short it’s a sweet engine and one of the main reason’s I purchased the Z4!!!!

bulldog/admirable for defending your fiat(turbo),tho the 3.0i z4 would leave it for dead, from 0-160!(i have had a cpl mildly tuned seat leon cupra turbos, and they are left behind by the z)

tom tvr/yeah,fully agree, they feel rock solid at max speed

+49/ as for the top spd of the 3.0,its 169mph de limited, with no additinal mods(as per dm automotive who do delimits/tuning for bm's/porsches,etc)and costs arnd £300 to get done,as far as i am led to believe

tailing off at 4k :o mine spooled around 2800-3000rpm boosting to 1.3bar, 'tailing' back to 1.0bar at the redline with the current map, it needs a FMIC fitting before i carry 1.3bar to the redline.

Craig - your right it would be left behind at 160, mostly because the gearing limits it to 149mph (GPS) :D

if i put it back on the road i would certainly be interested to see how it fairs against a Z4... i guess i could do some Dynolicious runs in the Zed and compare? just not quite a real situation...

the guy who maps my Fiat is certain it would walk over the Z4 in the midrang and topend, but who knows!
