Whats the best car you have ever owned

If you want to talk about cars which never had one single minute where everything worked properly at the same time, let's swap Rover 2000 TC stories!
TR7?

Not so actually Pondrew, from memory.....the RS differed from the XR3i thus..:

115bhp as standard as opposed to 105bhp for the 3i
Beefier, thicker exhaust manifold
Twin coil ignition
Left hand brake servo with a linkage across the bulkhead for right hand drive cars
Twin front anti roll bar links from the white heat MK3 RS turbo
Thicker anti roll bar front and rear
Higher poundage springs with Bilstein dampers
Different anti roll bar pick up points.
With 115bhp it was only 17 shy of the RS turbo.
He had his when I had my Turbo. The turbo was a much more desirable car at the time as it was seen as being a "proper" Ford Motorsport RS.
Now it seems to be going completely the other way; the Mk111 Turbos are so "last year" and the 1600i is the one to have. Fads I suppose.

Agree with that Pondrew, the so called ‘White heat’ MK3 RS turbo is still a very desirable car, more then the MK4 still, a 3k mile MK3 will command roughly £20k more than a MK4. But as you say the RS 1600i is now bonkers money for a low mile original car, more than even the MK3 RST. There is a definite division with the RS crowd, the purists wouldn’t give you the time of day with a front wheel drive RS, no matter which model it is, as far as they’re concerned the RS mark stopped with the last of the RWD cars, but picked up again with the Escort Cosworth as it had a real rally heritage. The FWD drive cars are heresy.... especially the MK4 RS turbo and RS2000 as nothing more than money grabbing marketing tools. Lots however appreciate the brand no matter the model, something I agree with as each RS model has something over the ‘Cooking’ fords.....and does it matter...? In under 3 billion years all man has created will be burnt to a crisp.....

As I said in my earlier post, the RS160i0i is the one car I would just move to get back, I had. a low mileage one owner car back in the day in red, it was nothing special in reality for power or speed but was such rare car then so mow must be virtually impossible to find.

I should never have sold it in reality but when I was younger, there was always something else I wanted to drive :)

BMW X6 40d - aggressive looks, great driving position, comfort and power. Drivers far better than it should.

Wahay. Another vote for the X6.
is that also your Z?
Whats the spec of your X6?
Ours has individual paint and seats, full comfort electric seats, HUD, soft close doors, active cruise etc

Each car I’ve owned has had that special feel as they each tended to be desirable at the time. It’s an impossible task to single one out from the list

My best car has to my e85 Z4. Good looking car, reliable, usable, great performance and economy too plus not the earth to own.

It has enough character coupled with sufficient safety devices (abs, airbags etc.) without being too intrusive.

My previous cars were all driven by the need to get the best mpg, so complete lack of character!

I do hanker for an old mini though.

It had over £10k of extras as detailed below and I part exchanged it against the red zed. A strange coincidence in that I’ve also owned a black 2007 R1....

Very similar , I dont have a sunroof or third rear seat but do have an individual sound system. Cant find any information about what this actually is or who makes it but it sounds excellent.
My R1 is a 2006 5VY so a different model, my wifes bike however is a black 2007 R1

Hard one....

I guess it is my TVR Griffith, I saw one in the papers when they showed the motor show and it had covered lights! I was about 10 or 11. Finally got one when I was 23 and had it since. It looks great, sounds great, has never left me stranded and never failed an MOT.

This reminds me, I'd best go put it on charge!

:worthless:

theres no way a 100% reliable TVR is real!

Griffith - in 45k no issues aside from DIY maintenance.

Z4 - new brakes all round, new bushes all round, control arms, new AC compressor, AC condenser, starter, water pump, thermostat, VANOS servo thing, front calipers.

Same mileage as my TVR.

My best car would be either 1986 Audi 80 sport - bought in 1991 & sold with 150K miles, no breakdowns, good quality, power, MPG, space.
Or... another Audi - a 2004 S4 V8 estate - did everything I needed in a car, with ease. The Z4 is nice but interior build quality just cant compete with Audi or Mercs of the same era, which is a big shame. In fact, the quality of dash components on my Z3 were better than the 4.

I currently run the 35is and a 335xd.
Both cars are good at what they do and in reality there’s not a great deal of performance difference in the real world scenario.

If I was being forced to let one go I’m afraid it would be my 35is

I suppose I’m saying that the 335xd is one of the best cars I’ve had.

There aren’t many cars that can combine sub. 5sec to 60 / 155mph / 50mpg if needs be plus a 4wd system!
