I know this topic has been done before.
But I couldnt find if anyone had moved to an M6 or not?

I am thinking of upgrading my M/// and after much contemplation, this is the car I am seriously considering.
However; after speaking with a BMW salesman he was more inclinded to lead me towards a V8 M3 (same performace, but better MPG's apparently).

All your comments would be welcome, has anyone got any experience with these beasts?

Plenty have, there's at least 2 in my frontal lobes who went MC to M3V8.

Mine is going to last a fair bit longer, but I then might look at a 635d Convertible, or a new shape Z4M V8.

E92 M3 or M6 or 997 Carerra S seem the 'logical' next steps.

The current M3 is a brilliant car, and looks so good with the Competition Package. Great engine, refined and comfortable when you aren't in the mood but fast as hell when you are. Not as hooligan as the old E46 car but still lovely, just in more of a GT car way. The V8 is a great compromise between a 6 cylinder car and the thirst of something like the M5 / M6. Personally I wouldn't go for an M6 - I just don't like the styling at all.

Hi Monzon, I made the move from Z4MC to M6.

It could be that the salesman is now leading you down the M3 route as BMW have ceased production on the M6 (FOOLS!!)

I tried M3 coupe, M6 coupe and M6 cabrio and the cabrio won my heart, it`s just such an "occasion" car. I loved my Z4MC and would have kept it as a weekend toy but getting married in 12 months so funds are tight.

As a drive the M6 is utterly different from the Zed, you can relax, and let the car drive you. Try that in a zed and you`ll be either kissing armco or tree bark! The chassis and suspension are very very well resolved with three stage EDC which works well.
The noise, although a bit subdued, is one of the greatest automotive road car noises this side of an exotic and is one of the reasons I went with the cabrio.

Don`t be expected to be wowed by lightening getaways like you can in an Z4MC/R the power and pace of the V10 doesn`t really come into its own until north of 80leptons. That`s not to say that it`s slow because you can still get a 4.4secs to 60 time fairly easily but it`s the power in 2-3-4-5-6 from 6000rpm to 8250 red line that is simply astounding. One you are rolling the weight doesn`t play such a part and the M6 will beat some very serious machinery. There is a lot of vids on you tube that are testament to this.

Be aware that it is a VERY expensive car to run but very enjoyable. Mine is in M mode P500 traction off as soon as the ignition is on. It`s pointless driving it in P400, negligent fuel savings and you may as well have bought a 645/650!

Fit and finish is very good, no rattles and really does have that hewn from granite feel that is perhaps a little absent on the Zed what`s with it being built across the pond.

I shall be keeping mine at least another 2 years then either supercharging it (once it is out of warranty) or going ferrari 612 Scaglietti. I doubt the big Fiat will be as fast as even the standard M6 though?

If you need any more info please drop me a line.

I test drove a m6 convert yesterday, i felt a bit gutted after the testdrive. I wasnt as blown away as I though I would be.
Never driven a car with that autoish transmission before - and was told this needs some getting used to. Very very jerky. The noise was a bit more subdued than i was hoping. High speed stability round corners is what put me off bigtime. The Z holds the road the glue, the m6 just didnt give the right feedback. I guess i'm just not ready for that car as my 'fun' car. It had some good straight line pace, but only felt a bit quicker than the Z. The sales guy said maybe the M3 V8 is for you. This would be lighter and has a nice manual - but I already have a 330d coupe, and the saloon M3 just doesnt look worthwhile. (Esp the older shape.)

A little too raw and bumpy - but a good 'fun' occasional use car.

Problem is, we are expecting a little one, so the wifey wants five doors ultimatley! :!:

If you need a fast family wagon then the RS6 should be on your list. Been in a friends estate verson and its supremely fast.

I went from V8 M3 to Z4M Coupe. The M3 is a great car but you need to be doing silly speeds to appreciate it and unless you are going to take the car on track then there is nowhere to use all the extra power unless you just keep redline'ing it in 1st and 2nd and maybe 3rd if you are feeling brave. Redline in 4th will have you seeing close to 140. The Z4M feels like a sports car at 20MPH which is what I love about it.

Maybe I'm getting old but I just dont see any other reason for getting an overpowered over weight saloon, estate car other than to save face with your neighbours and friends. A 635d will do the same job as an M6 but with less overheads, A 520d Touring will do the same job as an M5 touring, etc...
