Hi,

I've just bought a 2005 55 2.0 Z4... which I pick up later this week. Can't wait! :D

Anyway.... I have an iphone 4, how's best to connect this to the stereo? I'm happy cutting, drilling, soldering etc. so I don't mind putting some work in if required!? Can the stereo run the iphone or is it just an aux input? Cradles or not!? Tell me all.... and show me what I need to buy! :D

Thanks,

Daniel

HI Daniel,

I know there are various options depending on what head unit you currently have (I had Business unit)., Installed my new unit at the weekend bought from http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=111&cat=16&page=1. Very easy to install no cutting, soldering needed, all plug and play. Supports Iphone 4, in manual or automatic mode (so you can select tracks from Iphone direct or from the Stero head unit, also supports integerated bluetooth handsfree if you buy that module (included in package price of £136). Hope that helps, I'm sure you'll find other options shortly.
Enjoy your new Z4.

Hi,

I'm not sure if I need anymore replies, that looks absolutely perfect! If I read correctly, it works from the stereo and the phone. Bluetooth for handsfree etc. Nope, I'll be buying that! I just have to wait till I get the car so I know if I need round or flat pins. :D

Cheers,

Daniel

In terms of mounting it, I am using the Brodit mount from these people http://www.dsldevelopments.com/search.asp
part number 516165 this allows you to utilise the cable that comes with the Xlink kit, it attaches to the mount, allowing you to plug the phone in/out without needing to unplug the calbe. This unit attached to the prodit proclip - look on the same site for the clip for your model of BMW Z4. (Also plan touse my Iphone for sat nav) - hope this helps

Interesting mounting option. Here is another: http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/product/718/361/2point5-specdock-for-BMW-E85-Z4---w-USB-Cable/ (the interface box they sell seems to have the same functionality as the xcarlink).

This appears to be a more "finished" look, with the benefit of closing the door over the ashtray bay when not using it. My main concern is that it will be too low, and/or too vertical, to easily use the iPhone for nav. The Brodit mount has the advantage of being tiltable, and it mounts higher. Hmmm.

Clearly, I need to wait for pictures of your finished, installed project, and your review of it! :D

Well... I was about to order it but I thought best to wait till I get the car so I know it's definitely the quad connector I need. And it's next day delivery so no real harm waiting I suppose! It looks perfect for me though!

As for mount.... I'm not sure yet which is the best way to proceed.... but at least the rest is sorted. I prefer the ashtray type mount, but agree with the problems with looking at sat nav on the phone which I do use..... we'll see! :)

Well I have fitted my Brodit mount (just to the left of the heater control knob (as shown on Brodit site). Look pretty neat cable disappears into the blank plate under neat the the dash. The contro box tucks away in the dash beneath the radio no problem. The only tricky bit was where to mount the microphone without seeig any cables. After a bit of trial an error I have mounted it on the dash with no cables showing. I also fitted the retrofit multi function steering wheel controls, all went in with no problems encountered. Will try to get some pictures and put then up.
