What's it worth? 03 3l

I've had to move jobs, my 3 mile round trips turned into 30, quite gutted really as I love the car. It used to belong to mrlozzer on here who spent a fortune on it. Spec and pics nicked from his ad. I haven't done anything else to it. Just wondering what it's worth. Thinking of getting a 320d or 123d. Car is now on 91k. The electric hood is also playing up, I was planning on getting it sorted but now thinking it would be cheaper just to know the price down to compensate the soft top motor repair.

With a very heavy heart, a change in storage circumstances means that I've got to part company with both the Zed and the 545i, both of which have been seen various times on the forum…

The car is a Sterling Grey '03 3.0i 6-speed manual - but you wouldn't know that from looking at it - especially with the private plate! It has 86k miles and is MOTd until Dec 2013, taxed until July 2013. Mechanically, I have had the water pump replaced (the day after I bought the car), and it was serviced at the same time - also had a set of NGK Iridum spark plugs fitted at the same time. the car has been garaged, waxed and lovingly cared for for the last year or so.

The car as standard with Nav (although I've never figured out how to get the voice working) and DSP. Everything else that has been done to it is listed below…

Eibach lowered springs with Eibach camber adjustment kit
18" staggered anthracite CSL reps with Falken FK452 rubber (under 500 miles on these)
Facelift front bumper, black lower lip and custom lower grille with twin air intakes
OEM aluminium strut brace
K&N air filter
OEM clear front headlamps, silver inserts
Aero side skirts
Brand new front fogs
Clear rear high-level light
Clear / red Euro spec rear light clusters
M door sills
Genuine M grey Alcantara tri-stitch multi-function steering wheel, all wired in
Dice Mediabridge MB1500 iPod interface - provides handsfree 'phone / sounds through the wheel
ZHP illuminated weighted gearknob
RCH one-touch roof module
OEM cruise control retrofit
M Seats - heated, electric, memory, custom trimmed in black Nappa leather and grey alcantara with red stitching and diamond pattern
Door panels custom trimmed in black Nappa & with grey alcantara inserts, red stitched
Centre console retrimmed in black Nappa with red stitching, grey alcantara knee pads
Centre console insert and dash inserts painted in Sterling Grey (non-gloss, to avoid glare with roof down). Brand new matt black inserts to centre console
Additional storage nets (footwell and boot)
Additional storage cubby under drivers' seat

To reflect all of the work that has been done to it, I'm looking for offers in the region of £7000. I know that's a lot for an '03, but it's a very special one with loads of work done… the car will come with the plate too.

If the car goes for a reasonable price, I've got a newly-painted Sterling Grey rear PDC bumper, complete with PDC sensors and all the wiring for an OEM retrofit. Plus, I've got a set of Powerflex bushed used M3 front and rear anti-roll bars (freshly powder-coated) ready to go on too… plus various small spare items floating around my garage.

Great looking car and clearly a lot of work gone into it.
Shame about the roof motor though as it can be pretty expensive to fix unless either you or a mate are handy with the spanners! Think the parts are around 300-400 so not crazy money if you do it yourself. You'll be lucky to get any change back from 1k if you get it fitted by dealer.
There's no mention of service history in the original ad which will effect the price you could pitch you're Zed at. If it's got a full service history and condition is excellent I guess you'd be looking around the 6k mark (if the roof motor needs replaced).

If I was you I'd keep her though as the savings from a diesel on a 30 mile round trip aren't going to be substantial by any means. My advice, if you want to keep the Zed, would be to run her for a few weeks into your new job and see if it's feasible, it would be a shame to sell such an unique Zed for the sake of paying an extra £15 a week in fuel. I made that mistake when I sold my first Z4 a few years back after I tried to save money buying a sensible car.

Ay, real pain in the ass, most of my journey is stop start, roughly an hour to do 15 miles some days. Might set off earlier and see how If cutting traffic helps. The route home buggers me up more so. Joys of city living

Commuting out of London each day i find the earlier i leave the quicker it is, I find if i leave between 5:30 - 6:30 it takes me around 25-35 mins to do 16 miles. But if i leave After 6:30 i can take anything from 45Mins to an Hour and a Half but its usually the later.

I have flexitime at work meaning if i get in early i can leave at 4pm which makes traveling to work alot more bearable.

Hope this helps

Also to note i left a stage 2 Focus ST and bought a 123d (to save money on travel) and it was a good car but i missed the petrol too much so decided to sell up and get a petrol back in my life.
Another thing to consider is that Z4's are not really changing much in value now, they are low and i wouldnt think they will change much over the next few years. where as you could buy a new diesel andf it could loose £1000's in 1 year so maybe think about other non immediate costs as well.

I was faced with the heart vs head as my z is my daily drive and I do 60 miles per day. Like hopz, I have sold a great car in the past and replaced it with a 320d and got bored and changed to a 3.0 Z.

I didn't want to keep going round in circles so i invested £1,050 and converted to LPG. Best thing I ever did, I now get the equivelent of just over 50mpg :driving:

Great car very tastefully modded by the way

wasn't there a guy on here offering to fix broken roofs for around £500?

Assuming I've done this right - this should link to the relevant topic :)

DON'T get a diesel if your doing this type of driving! Diesels are only good value for money if your doing long commutes with good speeds. If you're in stop start traffic the engine can clog with carbon on the older diesels and on the newer ones your DPF wont charge and will need replacing, ££££££££££!!. The petrol engine is far better suited to stop/start traffic.

Hope that helps!

This! This! This!

Diesel does not mean cheaper and better, despite being sold as such. If everyone in the UK understood the above, we'd see a hell of a lot more petrol cars on the roads.

Just had a test drive in a Mini Cooper s, still fun but I think it will end up being far more economical than the z4. Would 5200 be reasonable?

I think £5200 is selling it short to be honest. I would hope it was £6k at least????

+1!

Of you do trade it, sell/swap the parts like aero skirts, wheels, custom seats etc.. You will still get your £5,200
