whats high mileage on a E89?

1 month, 2000 miles.

I would/will do 20, 000 pa with no concern. I am seriously considering an upgrade to 35is in a years time (fiances dependant) this time with all the toys!

3.5years old with 34k on the clock... I'm averaging between 400 & 600 miles a week at the mo. Really have no understanding of why you would buy a Zed and then not use it... I bought mine to make my weekly commute more pleasurable!!

Ive clocked up 6,000 in 3 months and I don't use it for work. All hooning :)
Would love to know what the average speed over those 6000 miles is? I've followed you down to the last two Midland's meets so I know you are not afraid to let rip with your right foot :poke:

I must be lucky, - my roof's never creaked and my light never leaked!

I think the answer to your post is that your e89 is high miles.

That's what they're for! :D :driving:

And that's probably why you have hardly had any problems! Car's don't like sitting in garages for weeks on end, they like to be used! :P

Very old post but intersteing to bring back to life given the age of the E89 now. I have a 2009 30i and it is currently on 77686 miles. I bought it roughly 2 months ago with 77556. Its been winter in the UK and the weather has been dire, plus I walk to work so the Z4 is just a weekend toy. Lovely outing today in the sunshine though, first time with the roof down while moving! The engine SINGS!! I love it so much!

And it opened when I left and closed on my return,. no drama - PHEW! Had to mop up the residual water in the boot on my return, as is the way (I have all the trim off), I think I have sealed and fixed all the leaks but the pesky stored water is still hanging around.

Got mine August 2024 had only 7,500 miles on it. Just got past the 21k mile mark. Needs new rubber, it was my daily, but trying to keep it mostly to a weekend car now.

So my E89 30si 2009 now approaching 17 years old has just under 30.000 on th clock average 1,765 miles per year. I need to get out more!

Bought my 2011 23i at 27k miles, now 9 1/2 years later it's just turned 134k miles. Regularly serviced and looked after, had the cam cover gaskets replaced due to an oil leak, a few other minor issues, but apart from that it's been great  :driving:

It would be interesting to know whether your response would be the same had you bought an N54. I would put money on it being slightly different (and a lot more expensive).

The only N54 I owned had two wastegates, both turbos rebuilt, a full set of injectors, coils and a HPFP replaced before 40k miles. And it had a comprehensive dealer service history. Suffice to say I didn't keep it long. ;)

My 35i is on 128k miles Pondy and I’m pretty sure hasn’t had any wastegate or turbo issues, it’s had a hpfp but that’s about it. You must have got unlucky….or I’m lucky….🧐

I guess that this will depend on the engine model, servicing , and how it has been driven. But I bought my Z4 E89 N52 last year with 125,000 miles, and did not bat an eye about the milage:-

Stuff from the internet:-

The BMW N52 engine is widely regarded as one of BMW's most reliable modern naturally aspirated engines, capable of exceeding 200,000–300,000 miles with proper maintenance.

But what truly sets the N52 apart is its feel. Few engines can match its silky-smooth power delivery. The engine’s linear throttle response and rev-happy nature make it a joy to drive.

The BMW N52 engine (2004–2015) was widely acclaimed for its lightweight magnesium-aluminum construction and, most notably, was named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines in 2006 and 2007. It was lauded for its smooth power delivery, efficiency, and reliability, representing a pinnacle of BMW's naturally aspirated straight-six technology.
