We are off to Italy in March. Very tempted to get our euros now. Or is it better to wait and see if it gets even better?

I will let you know when I but mine - then avoid buying them at that time as I always seem to get caught out! :x

Wait for a while, it will take a while for the rate to fall for a bit.

ronk - I earn in Euros as well so it suddenly is not so attractive to get on a plane ...

I buy Dinky models for a friend in NL , a very keen collector. He cannot buy the UK models in the Netherlands.
He gave me a few hundred €'s last September and I just put them in my safe for later use.

I know it's hardly in the same league as your exchange rate problems but there'll be a lot of folk who will get the mucky end of the stick.

Exactly , I was considering selling in France this year but by the time I pay tax then lose out a bit on exchange I'll be lucky to afford that cheap bottle of plonk I mentioned

Well there we go the QE effect is starting to cut in along with Grexit fears

See it's moved today from 1.31 to 1.34, which is a pretty impressive 1 day slide..

Carol - waiting 24 hours has already paid off :)

AAaaaargh!!! :headbang:
and it looks like a clear victory for Syriza in Greece - be interesting to see how the markets react, can't imagine it bolstering the euro

Even tourist rates are almost 1.35 :D :D I see Greece have been told to stop " Fannying about " so to speak - can't see them convincing anyone that they're serious about getting to grips with their economy - really sad - I have no knowledge of Greeks outside of the Islands but all the locals that we have made friends with over the years at Thassos are struggling to survive and work really hard to try and make a success of their businesses - it's not helped by the big tourist Companies - particularly Thomson , who apparently pay them peanuts for their holiday rooms :(

Yep - no surprise to me following fear of Greek situation causing leakage across club med, massive QE on the horizon, slowing of EU economy, fear of deflation in Eurozone and lack of confidence in the Eurozone as an entity, as raised by a top fund manager yesterday.

Sounds to me good for heading to €1,50 before Summer, but then as always if I could be certain of that movement I'd be a very wealthy :(

Good point, if there is a labour government in the UK we will be right behind Greece :o

Just remember as a general rule the cheapest access to currency is to pay by a Visa/Mastercard debit card. You get the benefit of commercial exchange rates which despite to currency surcharge (typically 2% but limited to 2.75%) is way better than any exchange rate you'll get as an individual.
Just dump your card into a major bank ATM on landing.

Secondly pay in the host currency not Sterling, else the local bank will use a poor exchange rate. I pay my hotel bill extras bill every week in Euro and it's around 5% less than electing to pay in Sterling.

perhaps I should be buying euros as an investment
The analysts are talking about dollar/euro parity being reached this summer - that would suggest a further fall in the euro of about 8%, if that fall is broadly similar against sterling it would sent the pound to over €1.50

I thought the Halifax an Post office cards were the best bet ?
Just remember to pay the balance on the day of return to the UK.
