I voted Vantage, but looking more closely at your budget I don't think it'll quite stretch to a manual 4.7 with the sports pack, which is what I'd recommend.

I voted for the M2 as a daily, but I'd probably go for a V8 Mustang at that budget!

And if I had any left over swap my E86 for an MC!

Yeh I know it’s an odd one, but I’m just thinking about buying something special for long road trips only, and keeping the z4c as a daily. Primarily so I don’t end up putting loads of miles on the special car.

Realistically, tho I’ll probably only have the one car, The missus has a practical car, hence I don’t have a need for practicality.

And unfortunatley I don’t like ragtops

[ref]Silverstar[/ref], 997 is defo a great car, but I’m not too keen on how they look unless it was gt spec, which is way way beyond my reach at mo

[ref]Chris1712[/ref],

True, wouldn’t go for r-tronic myself, has to be manual, but tbh car might a bit too flash as a daily,

So I’m slowly wiggling down the list... still a few months away before settling on something.

As much as I like the idea of owning an Aston (I’ll admit the whole 007 probably has more to do with it than anything) I think realistically the service costs (I know I said it wasn’t an issue - but if I actually came to buying it, then it would defo become a factor), and general disappointing performance based on reviews puts me off a little.

Z4m coupe is defo up there in my shortlist - just need to try one out first as I know they distinctly different to a 3.0

987.2 R would be awesome but just checked prices and they are pretty pricey... didn’t realise they for north of 40k, so 987.2 s could be realistic... but it looses points in terms of production numbers.

F type s I need to look into more... love how they look, but not sure about performance

And lastly an m2...

Anyway time will tell

As capable as the M2 is, for me it falls apart when you get in it and realise it’s just a hot hatch really.

It so is  very uninspiring interior , no way would it wrestle £30k plus out of my pocket , better off with the ££ in a M4 but then they are less involving & seemingly less coveted if the falling values are t go buy
Very few ///M options available for the £20k/£40k buyer

V8 Vantage servicing is less than £600 per year at a specialist, If you want a main dealer then Aston Martin Works do fixed price servicing between £680 and £800.

Also performance wise my 2011 Vantage absoulutely kills my Z4M Coupe.

Have you considered the Maserati Granturismo?

Yeh the main reason for m the M2 is up there - is probably more to do with having something thats close to the 1M coupe... but at a more afforadable price for me anyway

but yeh somehow not sure it would feel as special as dedicated 2 seater coupe... and yes the M4 certainly looks a beast... but again feels a little common. Love having only come across 3 or 4 e86's on the road in the year and a bit I've owned her... do like the rarity thing which the z4mc, and f-type is

[ref]Mister T[/ref], Yeh not, bad I suppose 600 ish, for an aston anyway... but more I think I about it, it's probably too much of a stretch.

and not sure I would like the idea of owning an aston, and having a focus rs with a quicker 0-60 time (not that I'll be tracking the car or anything)

Gran turismo - love the looks - but feel it might be too grown-up for me... I need one or two more sporty cars yet before I go for a proper GT car

what I am surpsied to find out tho... f-type s has a 0-60 time of only 5.3... and our e86's are 5.6...

the main thing going for the f-type is really it's looks and a more refined interior

Had a similar choice over the years but the 3 car garage ended up being an e92, 981 and a GTR.

Out of those, for me it would have to be the vantage or r8. first, closely followed by the 981.

If I got the F, I'd constantly want the v8 (I came close to buying an S convertible, still wonder if I should have)

The 987 R is a great car but I tried a few 987's before getting my 981 and as much as I hate bandwagons, they really do loose a bit of soul and feel going to a 4cyl (although I'd imagine they're crazy economic, my 981 gets better economy than my renault trafic diesel)

The F8's are amazing cars but just not for me and imo not in the same playing field as the others (sports cars vs sporty cars)

I loved my V8V but it wasn't as sharp or as quick as I would have loved - but as a purely visceral experience, it was largely unparraleled for the money. The interior felt rather cheap and the ford derived Key wasn't a high point.

Hmm actually through typing this the r8 would be top of the list out of the lot. I narraowly chose the GTR over one, having driven them both back to back on track, the GTR just pulled where the Audi didn't, just didn't love the Audi as much.

Sorry but as an anologue choice, imo the only valid options in your list are cayman R and z4mc.

The Aston is (again imo) the middle aged man's 007 crisis wagon - lots of great noise but not that quick and quite heavy for the size, and ridiculous in terms of running costs due to the continuous improvement approach by Aston to resolving issues.

The cayman R is one of the very few remaining truly anologue driving experiences - not too much power to fully enjoy on the road but truly incredible on track, and crucially a really pared back driving experience - sans speaker-augmented noise, overly restrictive driving aids, flappy paddle gearboxes and unnecessary additional weight. A truly great drivers car for weekend blasts, and it would get my salute on the road over an Aston or r8 all day long!

The z4m in general is a heavier car but a similarly analogue and raw experience though - albeit a little less refined and well mannered compared to the R.

I dunno I'm probably wierd but I wouldn't be seen dead in an r8 or Aston - for me it's more about what I feel driving the car than the brand image or anything else. The only car I really want now over my MC is a 997.2 gt3rs 4.0. I'm comfortable that I'm probably not gonna be able to afford that ever, and the enjoyment of pedalling my car quickly far exceeds the pose factor of something like an Aston or an r8. Horses for courses though, some people want a different experience so take my post in the spirit and feel free to ignore completely if it's not you

If you're worried about 0-60 times just but a GTR

this would probably be an unpopular opnion but rented a GTR for couple days, and didn't really like it all (all sorts of reasons). Not really fussed about 0-60 times, but it's what I tend to use to judge how fast a car feels... and not sure 5.6 (z4c) to 5.3 would be a significant enough upgrade for me...

but anyway picking at minor details here

interesting to know... yeh the 981 vs 987 for me would be more to do with the budget primarily - I love how the 981 looks (with 6cyl) (I'm not counting the 718 (4 cylinder) here.

V8V - thats something that sounds universal from everyone - and will most likely be disapointe, based on what I want.

R8 I love - but never driven a v8 version only a V10.

Gtr - not for me unfortunately - not enough drama, noise, looks. for me every other option is more exciting to me, despite it probably being a stupidly fast car
