So my current ride is Z4 Coupe and just toying with what I should get next (poll is more for fun, and this won't be happening anytime soon)

Considering electric cars will most likely take over in next ten years, I'm wondering what car would be the most fun to own, look at, fix and deal with issues, and just generally feel special.

And yes I know the price varies somewhat a fair bit between all of these - but generally speaking looking at 20-30k price range. I'm also ignoring running costs, practicality - this is all about enjoying the car day to day, as well enjoying the car on super long european road trips.

And just for discussions sake, what would you buy, if you were still holding onto your Z4C. (Daily the Z4C) and only bring out the other for road trips.

Why wouldn't you just daily the z4 ?
I have just done 1700 miles in my Z4MC and it was brilliant and wouldn't have any issues using it as a daily.Unless it was a really low miles example sub 30k example.A decent 1m and a decent z3m will cost a bit more than 30k and you will get a ropey r8 for that.Money at 30k plus for me would be a gen2 997 as a daily.

I have to say, the 987 Cayman is an awful looking car. It was vastly improved in the 981.

Are you sure you can get an R8 for that kind of money? I think the R8 is considerably more exotic than anything else on the list but it would have to be a V10 for me (even more out of budget). I test drove a V8 Vantage at length a few years ago (4.3), definitely no quicker than M3 and felt heavy on the twisties, not a very inspiring drive unfortunately. All the F-engined M cars are like PS3 games to me, fast but far too refined. My review of the F80 M3 Competition here.... https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=105692&hilit=bmw+m3+review

Out of the 11 choices the 981 for me :) & after voting i see we have a lot of James Bond wannabees on here  :D even with a alluring V8 the AM holds zero appeal to me

Yeh I know it’s a bit of an odd poll.

But there’s a fair few decent r8s with low mileage (40-50k) for 30k mark. Ive previously spent significant time driving a gen 1 v10 r8 (which is just amazing). But interior didn’t feel like a nice enough place - I actually think the z4 has a nice interior. Not that I was complaining - as the v10 is just epic! But that’s a whole other piece bracket... hence v8 in the poll.

I actually really like 981.1 but not the front headlights, but 987.2 has the cooler headlights but awful rear lights. Again tho interior doesn’t feel special.

I hear you about character with the F engined M cars.

Z4MC I love - but just a little concerned about how annoying it might be to drive as a daily. Yes the Aston looks awesome, but all the review say, it feels sluggish and not really sporty despite the 0-60 time.

Th either thing is also having something that is and feels rare, I.e. z4mc.

Been eyeing a cayman R - somehow they have a way better stance than a cayman s.

Not really keen on the 997 in terms of the design, looks clunky I think.

This seems like an odd question to me. When I first bought my Z4C it was my only vehicle so, by default, a daily. I became a 2 car person because I was forced to drive places with parking you could describe as 'mildly off road' (don't ask) and down occasionally filthy minor roads. I didn't want that kind of wear and tear or risk of repairing alloys, suspension and so on with my Z4. Now it's almost exclusively used in the dry.

The reason I say that's an odd question is that if you are happy to daily a Z4C then what's the other car for? You can do almost everything in a Z4C apart from take 2 passengers and even that probably has a workaround if someone doesn't mind curling up in the boot :D

Should the second car be more extreme or more practical? Convertible?

My vote would be for the 911 997 or newer but since its not on the list I would go for the Aston out of that lot.

My misgivings with the Z4C as a daily driver are to the lack of suspension travel/ hard ride. Having already had to replace an alloy and speed sensor etc. due to a pothole.
Also the lack of through loading, due to the bulkhead behind the seats.
My hobbies require me to load longer items and so I’m forced to have a second car.
An ageing Subaru Forester Turbo is doing a good job. But costs even more to run!
I’ll pitch that vehicle 2 needs to be more practical.
My sights are currently on an Audi S4 Avant B8
( 3.0TFSI).

Out of that list, R8 V8 for me - but not at 30k. A ropey R-Tronic would not do it for me, probably prefer a 981 S for that money.

I voted 981S too...
The R8 option would be R-Tronic or a manual, with the tricky gate change.

If running costs really aren't an issue then a manual R8 would be my pick, but the clutches don't last long and ain't cheap!

I suppose in reality I daily my Z4C when the weather is good and use my M135i as the occasional vehicle for carrying more people, hauling larger loads, or just being more comfortable and then gradually swap over as the weather gets worse. I work from home and live within walking distance of most things I need, so neither gets enough use.

Well if you have not done the Z4///M thing yet. I would recommend you go there before moving on. Different car and different experience to the the other Z4's. Of course far less sofisticated than many on your list. But correspondingly much cheaper too. :D :driving:
