if you were sat at the lights in the m and a, a boy racer in a saxo pulled up alonside and sat there revving the motor. b, the same happened but it was a scooby st or similar, or c, a porsche gt3 rs or something else obviously in a different league to the m? would you ignore them all, alter your responce according to the opposition, or the hell with it and floor it regardless ?

It amuses me when the VW Golf / Audi A3 soot chucker's pull along side at lights just so they can cut back in and get 1 car in front.

Don't race off the lights as it's rarely a good idea... Traffic lights usually mean it's in the city, lots of other cars around, maybe police down the road, excessive noise from the loud exhausts i have. Not smart. If on the highway with no traffic sure, why not? As for which one, i'll have a play with anyone who wants to. Not up to silly speeds but a good pull to see what's what. I'd actually prefer to take on higher end machines. I couldn't care less if i win or lose and it's as much, if not more fun to see and hear something exotic getting away from me as beating something less high end.

to all 3 - the answer is assuming we are on a dual carriageway and 60 is the speed limit - and not in a town and not excessively - because im becoming an old git ...

a -- yes - sporty cars like to see other sporty cars being driven with enthusiasm - even if they are in front of them
b -- yes - interesting to see who gets off hte line first
c - - yes - because i like to see a faster car being driven enthusiastically - even if its in front of me

I don't really take them on unless I'm in the mood and more importantly its safe.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a Clio 197 with a big spoiler, a couple of stickers and an aftermarket exhaust that clearly wanted to play on a single carriageway that splits to 2 lanes for about half a mile at a time on my way to work (11 am). He was in front of me and doing about 60 when he started to overtake a couple of cars. I thought better of it and let him carry on. On the way home, at 8.30pm, I approached a set of lights on a similar road that were on red, 3 lanes, lane 2 is occupied by the same car! I went to lane 3 and it was all sorted by the time 60 came up

Not worth killing someone, losing your licence or damaging your car, but when the time is right, it's nice to show them who's boss!

On a side note, I have also enjoy seeing how faster/more exotic cars compare in relation.

Anyone ever had a race with an SLR? Mind boggling!

Edited to say - but of course we've all done it, personally I see far too much dangerous driving on the roads without provoking it deliberately now.

I think is fun for 1 gear change, but at the end of second gear, we are at the speed limit and we know who is going fastest

Years ago I would have raced anything off the line, but an incident between a Scooby and my VR6 changed my attitude.

The Scooby pulled up in the right turn lane (on my right) to avoid the queuing traffic and decided he was going to go straight across at the lights and force his way in instead of turning right.

He obviously didn't realise I was going to floor it too, and as the lights changed he found himself almost level with me (but slightly behind). I blasted off, didn't see him along side me, and assumed he'd pulled in behind - until I glanced in the mirror and he wasn't there. I was a bit up the road by then and started to wonder what had happened. So I turned around about 200 yards up the road and came back to find him with a traffic light pole across his driver's side half of the car.

I didn't stop and drove straight home.

I might still pull away sharply, but that's whether there's anyone there or not, and I wouldn't intentionally force anyone into avoiding action, I'd just lift off a bit.
