What would you do?

This is a massive pet hate of mine.. i park miles from other cars and I always find a big 4x4 or people carrier next to it when i get back.

I used to think parking next to a nice car will save you.. but this is often not the case - as they are often just as careless.

imo i would have made a snide remark and left it at that... if there was considerable damage - so cracked paint i would take a pic, and go up to them (regardless of thier size) and get their insurance details... or let my insurance deal with it.

I would have taken down his registration number. Called a friend at the Dvla to find his address. Then i would have petrol bombed his house, and raped his daughters.
But thats just me....

what an arse, good on you for having a word, shame on him for the paint damage

I have three dents on my car now - all from car parks :x

I would have keyed his car or at the very least done something..

I saw young lad do this to my previous car. As he walked off he saw me get into mine and he smirked...

Cue me honking horn, him turning round and me then dowsing the front of his car with what was left of my McDonald milkshake. This is after I keyed his trying to get into mine..

Wow, alot of good ideas, some not so good :

I think it was pointless to take down the insurance details, but "accidently" scraping my key againgst his car or banging my door/foot into his car would have felt really good, and justifyable.
The shopping cart against the tail lights is also something I wish I had thought of at the time. :)
Unfortunately I just can't push myself to do something like that, it feels so wrong.. :?
At least I told him off, and I saw him shrink a few sizes when he realised he had been caught. Unfortunately that does not do my poor car any good...

if you go through insurance then its a pain the year after when filling in the renewal forms/quotes

Haha, did you really?! That was excellent, because you got back at him, but there was no damage to his car. I really wish I had heard about that before, I would definitely have done that.
I can just imagine the look on his face!
If it ever happens again (fingers crossed it won't) then I will rush to the nearest McDonalds, purchase a huge milkshake and waste it all over his car.

was just thinking about this in asda carpark, what I tend to do and have done for years now is line the mirrors up with the opening of the door or doors if possible next to me so if that person decides to open the door fast it hits the mirror and not the car.... i used to do this a lot when I was in apartments with shared parking as the bays were very narrow. Would rather have a tiny mark of the very edge of the mirror than any marks on the doors/side of car ;-)

Taz from what I gather when doing my dads in the past its classed as 'non fault/hit in rear' when filling in insurance and makes no difference to the new policy as long as it was settled and the other party was to blame.
