Cheers all-it just seems that when I take it for a hoon/Italian tune up that's when the fookin light comes on!

You've got the D900 reader. Just delete the b****y code, only takes 30 seconds, and worry about the important things in life. Your engine ain't going to blow up!
Cheers I hear what you are saying-I am waiting for a 'miracle' and for it to go out on its own accord

Aren't there any classes that you could attend to help you with your Compulsive Emission Light Disorder Andy :P

Changing the car opens up a whole load of other potential issues.

Like not being able to find a forum as friendly as this to put your mind at ease

Been having a dabble on 'other' bmw forums  with cars with the same p0420 fault some have stopped from replacing the battery/air filter-surely these must be coincidences?

I used to worry a bit when this or other warning lights appear. With these OBD readers you can delete the faults and if there was something to worry about they would re-appear straight away. My emissions light is intermittent from a few days to a few weeks being on or off. I also deleted about 5 faults last week after having some work done on the Cooling system.

Can I ask what code your emission light is throwing up?

My emission light came on last week, bank 1.The car still drives the same so I just reset it.

Question.........Just how many engines that you know about from this forum have blown up Andy ? :poke:
Answer......... :tumbleweed: That I know of anyway.

Just drive it mate, you won't get any more money for your car when you sell it with a new Cat or what ever you do to it.

Andy, Have you tried adding a petrol reducer? BMW do one.... it's worth a try for a few quid. The instructions on the can tell you to add it to a full tank, but I was advised by my local specialist to add it to half a tank, and then get the engine really really warm before driving the car harder than you normally would. Good luck!

Yeah I hear you -spending a grand on a cat is not going to add a grand to the value of her.

Yes it is  . It did the trick for me just over a year ago, and since then I have used redex every now and again, usually when it's on offer in Tesco for £2.50 lol.

I can't remember the code,I have just checked my fault reader and I didn't store the code. When it happens again, and i'm sure it will i'll take note of it

I rang the stealers -they advised me not to use it!-said they have only sold one since they have had it in-so I went for Cataclean instead.(light still came on) :(
