What would you advise.

My neighbour has scraped and dented her new Dacia Duster this morning - She recently passed her UK driving test after driving in the Caribbean for several year so it’s a new car, new licence, new insurance. I don’t know what her excess is or the amount of damage she’s done ( no other car involved - it was a car park incident)
Does she claim on the insurance or pay for the repairs herself ?

I’m inclined to say pay for the damage - even if it costs £1000
I can imagine her next years policy would be loaded quite heavily?

Could always try a 'confused.com' quote, putting in one year plus listing an approximation of the proposed claim and see what it says?

I would advise she takes more lessons and if she doesn't improve give up and resign to taking the bus for the foreseeable. :)

I think the first thing to do is to get an estimate for the cost of the repairs from someone reputable. Then she will be best placed to decide what to do next. A lot depends on these costs. If not too prohibitive I would go with your recommendation and pay herself. However if it is really expensive she might have to use the insurance. Hope it works out for her.

That should not cost a fortune to fix, just pay to get repaired.
If she was my neighbour I would be out checking for damage every time she moved the car.

It's a Dacia, I would just leave the damage as it is. It probably increased the value of the car.

I’d agree, it’s a £6k car new, no value in spending £1k to fix that if she’s going to likely do it again!

My thoughts, keep your cars well away Ron :)

I would get a few quotes from local repair shops. Looks like less to repair than most people pay in excess, from what I can see.

Yes, I'd start by getting a couple of quotes for a "cash job" and go from there.

She’s been quoted £350 by a local body shop.
It’s much less than her excess so I’ve said go that route.

Thats a great price. Expensive yes, but much less than notifying her insurance company and paying for it for the next 3-5 years
