Hi all im about to buy a 23i auto & it comes with a choice of either 296s or these in pic .Which ones would you reccomend i presume one lots 18 & the 296s are 19s .cheers 20200111_113519.jpg

I like the 296 design, but as with all the 19" options for the E89 (and BMW generally it seems) they do seem to be fairly terrible for cracking, especially when fitted with run flats.

The ones in the picture (they are style 400's) don't look bad at all - do you have any idea of tyre brand/tread depth which might help with your thought process?

(I'm on the lookout for a new set of alloys for my E89 and am now only looking at 18's)

Thanks for reply the 296s have more tread on them ,few scuffs but no cracks .Just cant make my mind up but i think i just prefer the 296s .Will thete be much difference ride wise .cheers

Although legend has it that your 296s may eventually crack, if it were me I'd choose them.
The spokes on those other wheels look too angular for a car that is mostly curves.

I think the 296s look much better - I suppose it depends if you can live with the possibility of cracking?

If you don't have run-flats on them I'd definitely choose them!

Mine with 296’s on it. My personal choice of any wheel. Suits the car really well.

I was told 296’s off of later cars are less prone to cracking but don’t know much about that.

Mine are later wheels and are ok so far

I love the 296s too...

Mine are original from 2009. Only 1 is cracked/welded and that was due to hitting the mother of all pot holes, big enough to have damaged pretty much any wheel! 2 wheels went down the hole but only the rear cracked

Easy choice for me ... 296

You would do yourself a favour by ditching the run flats as well whatever wheels you go for.

If you look at decent after market wheels then choosing 19’s wouldn’t be such a risky affair, far less chance of them cracking than the bmw ones made from eggshells :o

Can you or the forum recommend some decent aftermarket brands without going to serious amounts of money?
I have Style 290 17" and a set of Style 108's 18" currently. Ideally, I'd like to sell a set and put money towards another. For an E89. I like black haha!

Well they aren't black, but I've got a set of E89 295s (so 18") on my E86 that I'm selling. The only person who has looked at it didn't like the stance on the 295s as they sit further out at the front than the back (mind you some spacers on the rear could have sorted that)!

Anyway I've added a couple of photos of my car on the 295s which are in great condition, albeit fitted with Bridgestone run-flats with between 4mm and 6mm of tread, but it originally had 108s so what condition are your 108s in? And what tyres are on them? Also where are you? Maybe there is a deal to be done.
