What wheels for my e85?

Hello

Iv had my Z4 for about 5 months now after wanting one since I was younger and I bloody love it! I’m just struggling to find wheels I like!

My car came with some 17” Turbines with run flat Bridgestone tyres, I wanted to get rid of the run flats so I bought a cheap set of MV2’s in the colour I thought I wanted (£110) and a cheap set of 4 nearly new Nankang winter tyres I found on eBay for £50 to see how they looked / felt with the idea being id have them refurbished and I’d stick some decent tyres on if I liked them.

But I’m undecided!

I think I want some CSL’s or BBS ch

I assume a fair few are running the CSL’s... what size looks best? 18” or 19” and the same goes for the BBS’s?

I’d love to see some pictures of what you guys are running!

Thanks
Arthur

You’ll get a load of differing opinions on which wheel styles and sizes suit the Zed best, but your taste is what matters. There are plenty to choose from and quite a few few threads on here with photos of different set-ups to look at. CSL are certainly a popular choice.

I personally prefer 18” wheels on a roadster as I think the proportions suit it better. For me 19s just look a bit too big on what is quite a small car and the roadster has a relatively low side view profile. It’s a bit different for the Coupe on which 19s work better.

I had a brief experiment with 18” CSL reps on my car. I quite liked them, but ultimately I prefer the simplicity of a five spoke design, so they were sold on.

Personally feel these cars lend themselves brilliantly to the newer style BMW wheels...

I've always liked the 107's, probably because they're quite a chunky looking alloys, with nice thick spokes. They're also oem and I don't really like aftermarket stuff these days.

MV2's look really old fashioned and are a pig to clean.

I wouldn't go for 19's as the ride quality, from experience, takes a bit of a hammering. It's not exactly great as standard anyway.

Hopefully you might find a bit more inspiration on this thread:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=118805

Thanks for the advice! I agree 18” looks best on the roadster!

How much should a half decent set of CSL’s cost?

Well if they are 18s they will be replica CSLs.

I recently sold a set of four 8J x 18 CSL Reps on here with pretty worn out budget tyres for £150.

Genuine CSLs are 19s and cost plenty:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=118912

On the standard wheels 18s look great, but 18s look too small in my honest opinion if your looking to upgrade & increase the visual impact, as for ride issues the ride difference when I've gone from 18s to 19s is no difference what so ever, I've got Eibach sports springs, the only issues I've had is slight rubbing on front arches on hard cornering, but I think that could be due to my front bumper needing realigning slightly.

I think it depends on the style and colour of the wheel. Black wheels look smaller than the same size wheel in Silver, so something like your rather Tasty BBS in black in 19’s look good.

Generally though, I personally feel 19’s suit the E86 better than the E85.... but it’s all down to personal taste.

Probably a perverse and contentious comment, but out of all those wheels shown above, I like the design of the 17" turbines best.
Just a shame they look a little small.

I also like the turbines but like you said, shame they aren't 18"

Just my opinion but 108's look best on the roadster.
