what was the first vinyl album you acquired?

PVR, my first CD player was also the CD104, which I still have. Cannot remember my first CD and now they are all packed safely away.

CD100 was the first ever CD player, you got a free sample CD with it with about 37 songs from memory. As they were so expensive, that one lasted me quite some time :)

Some great ones in here

My first 45 was Twist and Shout (the EP) , the Beatles , my sister gave it to me for my birthday when I was about 9 or 10

First cd: Pink Floyd Meddle of course....

All you youngsters wondering about vinyl, go to the super expensive Audio store and see what a turntable costs now, a decent one , not the crap the DJs use. Then throw in some heavy duty amps, preamps and speakers and by the time you have it done you could buy a new Zed4 tintop for the same price. :headbang:

Before CDs mp3s etc we, audiophiles that we all are, used cassette tapes. I have all my vinyl in the bsmt and eventually I will get it onto digital format. BTW, mp3's and all that downloaded stuff sounds like s**t compared to digitized vinyl. The quality of the new formats just isn't there.

I know what you are saying is absolutely correct, however vinyl, in my opion, was a fundamentally flawed medium to reproduce music on as there is deterioration in quality every time you played it and to some degree so was tape. We just look through rose tinted glasses at our youth and it was always better. However I for one do not miss the hiss and crackle of vinyl.

Long live digital and my ultimate ears

Pops, snaps, crackles, I don't miss that at all and the joy of digital is that you can filter most of it out without wrecking the overall recording. The combo of vinyl and digital is impressive IMO.

And dont even mention tape hiss :headbang: :headbang:
my youth was all about Quad ( the English brand, not the quadraphonic system) and electrostatic speakers. And how loud could you get the Altecs before the police came....

Ahh the days of crackly vinyl.

My first album was "Every picture tells a story" Rod Stewart.
I still have this album which strangely enough has never had a needle on it/never been played.

My first single was one of a few
Wig Wam Bam....The Sweet
Telegram Sam....T Rex
Mouldy old Dough....Lieutenant Pigeon
Standing in the Road....Blackfoot Sue

I still have all my vinyl and this thread has set me off having a look through it all, trouble is I dont have a turntable any more to be able to listen to them :(

There are quite a few turntables on the market that produce a digital signal, straight into an IBook etc....you don't need to spend a grand on a table to digitize.

I'm old enough to play on this thread...

45 : AC/DC Rock n roll ain't noise pollution
LP : Status Quo 12 Gold Bars
Cassette : ELO - Out of the Blue (second name check for ELO!)

Can't play any of them now - so all gone to charity shops / local dealers.

Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman.
7 single - "Burning Bridges" by the Mike Curb Congregation. I think it was the theme song in the movie "Kelly's Heroes"

Does 'Acquired' include stolen off my sister who'd bought it? In that case it'd be Kiss - the God Gave Rock n Roll To You single shortly after seeing Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. First musical item I actually paid for myself though was a Now CD!

Might just have to blow the dust and cobwebs off the Turntable (forget which it is, but plays through an old Sony Amp) when I get home on the strength of this thread and dig out the vinyl that I've not listened to in years

Alice Cooper 'Killer' album, Then 'School's out' with the open up desk sleeve with, would you believe, a pair of lassie's knickers!! (not the dug for you non Scots) LOL!!! I played 'Killer'on my mate's big sister's record player in stereo - first time I ever heard stereo!!

Led Zeppelin was my 1st vinyl. I still own an analogue table and several hundred albums, as well as a dedicated SACD player with 1,000+ SACD's. Yes, audiophile tables can be quite expensive these days, and I've certainly invested twice of what my Z is worth on my gear. Oh well, two passions are better than one...

Someone mentioned the first tape... mine was Led Zeppelin, yes, the first one , when it came out, i think I was 14 or 15 and all I had to play it on was a mono portable unit in the backseat of my dads Cortina , Until I got home and could play it in the house  " Been dazed and confused for so long ....." awesome tape... Considered by some to be the birth of Heavy Metal.....

Vinyl in it's natural form is still the best for warmth and enjoyment. Careful handling and there's no reason not to enjoy the original again and again (the enjoyment of holding an album can't be beat). I did a test with friends years ago playing dark side of the moon on cd through an arcam system and on vinyl from a Rega deck, started both playing at the same time and switched between both, everyone preferred the sound of the vinyl. CD is convenient and i have to say i use my iphone to play music in the car but digital really isn't all it's cracked up to be. I have avoided most downloads as the sound is awful on the ones i've heard, such a shame. Then again i guess it's a generation thing.
