What was Rossi Thinking

Great little debate. I've watched several more angles since the initial post. It does look more like Marquez leaned into Rossi on some angles, so effectively brought himself down. Alas deliberately running another rider out wide is not allowed and it was the Doctor who did that, so a penalty was to be expected and was given. Hope it's not his last season, as a result, but the question is certainly going to be asked. :(

Yes I hope its not Rossi's last season as well cant wait for next year now that the championship is pretty much over just hope
Mr Charisma Lorenzo falls off in valencia I have got good money waiting in the bookies if Rossi wins the championship.

the best thing I have seen this year in moto gp is Mad Joe going to headbutt the seagull at phillip island shame it hit his knee

the only thing I have left to say is COME ON DANNY KENT !!!

Here's my twopence worth ....... from someone who has raced all his life ........

Rossi was in front, he knew Marquez was coming and he did what hundreds of racers have done before ...... he deliberately went wide with the intention of making Marquez back off (slow down) or run off the track, he stuck his knee out which is all part of making yourself as wide as possible .... at this point, its all pretty standard stuff and happens all the time especially when the following rider is pissing you off.

Marquez being Marquez, kept on the gas and decided to come through ............ at this point he is still behind so officially whatever line Rossi is taking, is his .......... Rossi stuck his knee out, which again is standard stuff to make yourself as wide as possible and intimidate the bloke behind into backing off ........ Marquez came past so close that he contacted Rossi's knee and lost the front end, Rossi's foot came off the peg with the contact.

There is no question that Marquez was at fault .......... however, Rossi, definitely looked back, of that there is no doubt, so there is also no doubt that he timed the going wide maneuver to force Marquez off the track ...... and for that Rossi gets a sanction, that's in the Rules.

Getting run off the track by faster riders when you are in their way happens all the time, its one of Marquez's best talents ..... he has run loads of other riders off the track ...........

If the rules were applied fairly, Rossi would be sanctioned for a deliberate move to force someone off the track ....... if he hadn't look back to get the timing right, he would have gotten away with it, and ........... Marquez would be sanctioned for his dangerous overtakes .... (if you overtake somebody so closely that you touch them ...... that's dangerous overtaking......... )

Add to all that ....... the media interest ........ and the fact that everyone has an opinion ........ race direction have a hard job.

............... and finally, its pretty standard etiquette in racing, that in a championship fight like this, the riders that are not in contention will get out of the way of the riders fighting for the title .......... there is no question that Marquez was not ever going to abide by this unwritten rule and he was going to teach Rossi a lesson after all the verbals that went on during qualifying.

Conclusion ............ Marquez was behaving like a 125cc rider, ie like a young kid, and Rossi was well pissed off, and he is Italian ...... under the circumstances its a wonder that no one got hurt.

I honestly believe that if Marquez had tried that with Lorenzo, Lorenzo would have done the same, I have no doubt at all that if he had done it to Crutchlow ...... he would have got the same treatment and a smack in the gob after the race ........

Absolutely spot on

Agree

Teamemmenracing, in all your racing years when you are going round a corner even if running someone wide would your eyes be on the guy next to you or on the apex you are aiming for?

You are looking where you are going obviously ........... but you always know when someone is behind you and you've a pretty good idea about what his next overtaking move is going o be .......
so you can easily run someone wide or off the track and claim you were covering your line.

As I said in the post ........... Rossi turned round and looked at Marquez, leaving no doubt that the running wide maneuver was done deliberately ......... so he gets sanctioned, simple.

Danny showed how to handle a pressure situation when every rider around him was giving no quarter or just letting him through just because he is leading the championship.
With any luck we will have a Moto 3 world champion next time out.

Pure class from Lorenzo today, brilliant pole time yesterday and great consistency in the race. A well deserved win and 5th title.

Yep, brilliant performance by jorge and a deserved 5th title.

However at the risk of blowing the debate up sideways again  I have seriously lost all respect for MM, funny how all of a sudden he didnt have any fight in him the whole race until of course his team mate passed him to possibly blow the race wide open...then he grew a set of balls, he was faster through 4, 5 and 6 most of the race and chose not to pass even towards the end when jorges tyre was destroyed, it all leaves a bit of a sour taste for me.... Take nothing asay from Lorenzo though a worthy champ

It was indeed a classic race ....... Lorenzo never put a foot wrong and rode like a champion and deserved the win and the title ........ Rossi also rode the best race of his life and delivered a performance that proved that he is at the top of his game.

Rossi lost the title because he lost he lost his cool ....... and that ...... is what racing is all about, not just going fast, not just wining races ..... its about being a champion between the ears as well.

It was a fantastic and just end to a great years racing.

He did get slated for interfering in a championship fight by dicing with Rossi so maybe he thought it best not to do the same with Lorenzo.
Hmmm doesnt quite work both ways though does it.
It was a shame that it wasnt a fair fight for the championship. If the Marquez/Rossi thing hadnt happened Rossi would have taken 4th at Sepang then a proper race for the championship at Valencia with whoever was at the front winning the title.
There was nobody challenging Rossi after he passed them either, they just let him go.

Two well deserved world champs crowned today ,Danny Kent and Jorge Lorenzo who rode out of his skin.
Not the most exciting racing but still kept you on edge until the finish flag.
Roll on next year with the new rules in place, hopefully it will give the riders on the non factory bikes a chance.

At one point in the race I thought the same thing about not interfering with lorenzos push, but then you cant choose from week to week can you? If he'd have rode his usual race then fair play but it was very obvious he was holding back, like i said though take nothing away from Lorenzo.. Great ride, great season and worthy champ... Roll on next year

What a frustrating last race can't take nothing away from Lorenzo great ride but could clearly see Marc holding back :x when ever he's this close to the lead you can count on Marc to try and overtake the leader but not this race no wounder pedrosa court up! Bet if the tables had been turned and Rossi was at the front and Lorenzo racing from the back Marquez would have doing what he normally does and try everything to overtake.
All amazing riders and great racing just a shameful last race. Quote from Marquez " I gave it 100% as I always do"
Bollocks I say!

I think he normally gives 110% though so he was holding back

I think Marquezs overtakes are amazing at times and can be risky as well but he always gives it a go but this race thought better to stay behind than risk a move it seems.
