What useful little touches does the E89 feature?

I love when you're on a dark motorway and you flip the idrive down and the orange down lighters shine down on the centre console

How do you do that?? I thought once it was up it stayed up unlike the E86.

Reading the manual online I've found you can turn the screen off by hitting the "option" button near the iDrive controller and scrolling to "turn screen off" (or similar- it says something like that).

Not sure if turning it off means it also folds up though. I'd hope so, won't want it up if I'm not using it...

After 4 years of e89 ownership, I still smile when you are near a national monument and it appears in 3d graphical format on the sat nav. :D

stonehenge
wallace monument
worcester cathedral
york minster
angel of the north
football stadiums etc etc

How do you set the system to do that ???
It will be a good novelty .

Just have the nav on normal 3d, but set the scale to 175 or less. Then go and drive up to a cathedral or something. Stuff like stonehenge are tiny but recognisable. Stadiums etc look good.

I'll give it a whirl!
I haven't noticed it before, I suppose I haven't been near a cathedral in the car tho!

I like the way you can touch the number buttons with out pressing them and see what is programmed for each one. very cool.

Discovered this today - and I did think it was cool :).

The wife likes the mood interior lighting at night - Said it was like being on a Virgin Jet :).

Best useful touch is the DCT gearbox & M-Sport active sunspension giving you at least 3 cars in one :D
