What to lubricate for final stage of roof closure?

The final stage of the roof closing (before the windows come up) is the front edge of the boot going down. My roof work's always worked well - touch wood - but this last stage is a bit noisy. What should I lubricate, please, and with what?

That makes sense. Mine's the same. Recently, however, I lubricated the holes in the top of the windscreen frame and the front clunk's gone now. The only two that remain are the rear window frame, which is incurable, I think, and, as I say above, the front of the boot lid.

I've gummipflege-d the car every year and oiled the boot hinges & stays, but don't know what to do with the front of the boot lid.

Is it normal for it to come down with a bang and a clunk? mine does the same, although if I release the button just before it finally shuts and then press it again, it's quiet as a dodo. I have nothing to measure it with since it's done it from the day I bought the car about 6 months ago.

My 35i has only done 28K, always garaged and it clunks down like yours, my 23i did as well.
I use the same trick as you, finger off - finger on for a smooth landing..

I recommend to not add lubrication on any roof hinge.

The dampers in the roof get weak over the years and in most cases, that results in louder and harder landing sounds. Can be replaced for less than 50 bucks in pairs.

Looks like all the dampers get weak, I already changed the ones for the boot and I need to change the ones for the bonnet. Are there 2 dampers for the roof? and is it simple (like the boot or bonnet) to replace them?

The last noise comes from the final closing of the boot lid in the area near the rear window. It's at the slowest point of the boot closure, so I don't think it's damper related.

It sounds a bit like a big cork squeezing back into a big bottle.
