What to look out for when buying a used Z4 coupe?

Hi

Ive seen a nice Z4 coupe 3.0 for sale, its a 2006 car with 30K on the clock. Not knowing much about these cars are there any particular issues with these that I need to look out for when buying secondhand?

Are they usually a fairly safe bet?

Visually check the rear springs, they are prone for snapping due to corrosion. I'm sure someone else will be along with more advise :D

Thanks matey!! Are the engine/ gearboxes pretty good? Also would a 56 plate have the more economical engine as heard it changed at some point?

to quote my indy when i told him what i was buying " belting car's , bulletproof in the main , , , any problem's are cheap fixes as majority of parts are E46 3 series "
check for loose play on front steering , ,shows especially on bumpy roads/speedhumps . . .proper BM bits cost £100 but feels as new afterwards ,
cheaper at eurocarparts .
mine has 90k & i cannot find anything to replace on it & it drives without fault

Thanks for the replies everyone :) Seems like a fairly safe bet! Am changing from a BMW Mini Cooper S where there are a fair few issues to look out for when buying a used one. Looking forward to picking it up!

check under the gearbox! bought mine from bmw snows....but a week later noticed it was leaking gear oil, and it turned out it needed a new gearbox sump plate...gasket and various other things at a total cost of 650 squid...lucky i didnt have to pay for it

has been error free ever since! if there is a lesson here...check for leaks, and maybe go AUC

Deposit paid!! Hopefully collecting it next friday, cant wait :D Turns out it was serviced four months ago and rear springs replaced so looks good in that respect, have got a couple of pics...btw, car spec says it has headlight wash...does this mean it'll have xenons?

looks a treat mate  happiness awaits :)

slip the vin number in here http://bmwvin.com/ for full build spec but yeah . i would say xenon's are fitted with the washer system .
also has the extended aerial package

Good plan will do mate! Turns out it has 28K on the clock, apparently the phone had been ringing off the hook, black ones seem to be fairly scarse!
Haha I thought the aerial looke huuuuge! Have seen 6.5 cm stubby ones on ebay for £7 or so. should do the job!

good price from a dealer with respect of the mileage .
will you be joining the "black hole" gang ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Poorboys-Black-swirls-imperfections-application/dp/B002OHL1CI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345894987&sr=8-1

Im quite into my detailing and was a big fan of black hole on my Mini :) Have just bought some Prima Amigo which is a very similar product but apparently darkens the paint even better than BH, not tried it yet so will be interesting to see what its like.
Not actaully seen the Z in the flesh yet as its 200 miles away but have seen lots of pics and spoken to the dealer and it sounds like a good one.

Thanks Taz :) Its up in stoke on trent, last guy had it for 18 Months apparently having bought it from the same garage if that helps?
