What to do when you sell your Z4C

Simple - buy another one!

Someone on here was looking for a Z4C, and I had realised mine had only done 8,000 miles in 2 years. With my daily being a 325ti Compact I was paying 2 x Band K RFL. But my mother is 94 and can't get in and out of a Z4C, and most of my mileage is to do her shopping or take her to medical appointments which involves the M3 from J4 to J2 with 50 mph average cameras (if it isn't closed), M25 J12 to J10 with variable speed limit (read less than 70 for 95% of the time - cannot get a queue unless they do that) then a bit of A3 with no gantries or cameras - lovely!

Anyway I sent a reply and on 1 May the forum member came to see my Z4C. On 2 May he sent a deposit.

By 3 or 4 May I wondered what I had done, but a deal is a deal. So I got onto the classifieds, AutoTrader, Z4Forum, Pistonheads, etc.

Looked at an SE in Cornwall as it did have red leather (lovely) but also seemingly hadn't been serviced between June 07 at 19K miles and November 12 at 49K - not reassuring!

So on 5 May I found myself on the M40 heading North when a grouse decided to land in the 1st lane and rip out my lower wheelarch liner (on the 325ti fortunately). :evil: But the fat bird won't do it again as the front wheel got it!

Still I got to look at my current steer that was on PH - I loved the combination of Montego Blue and Pearl Grey interior!

So Ruby Black went on 8 May and Montego Blue arrived on 10 May - every cloud and all that! But what was I thinking! I just need to use the Z4 more.

Will try to post some photos, but it isn't easy on this site! (And it was overcast, raining and getting late)!

What a great story - I'm sure the departed Coupe was very nice, but that's a lovely colour combination on your new one

Don't forget the first mod you need to do is to replace that stubby with a whippy!

I'm very glad you didn't decide to go back on the deal! I would have been gutted. It has gone to a good home and will be taken very good care of.

It is also the first car of mine my girlfriend hasn't hated!

Thanks everyone, although I should have expected a positive response on here!

Really pleased with the colour combination - Ruby Black was stunning in the sunshine though!

I will loose that stubby - the radio barely picks up any stations, and I don't like the silver! But undecided whether to have another stubby or revert to whippy! Aesthetically I like both, but I want to try to find out what works best.

And there is no prospect of a Roadster ever! I like the front and back attached to each other by more than the floor!

Thanks! It is a salutary tale for sure.

After I took the deposit on the Ruby Black one I just couldn't think of anything else I could replace it with for similar money, and I still can't!

So many of the possible alternatives would have been barely any quicker than my 325ti daily, so that ruled them out straight away. The one possible exception was the Nissan 350Z, but I'm not so keen on the styling (it looks a bit like it has melted, in the same way as E92 Coupes) and it's a V6 not a straight 6.

And I have to say I had a great drive home in the blue one (it was just over 100 miles away)!

Hopefully this one is a keeper.

No way would I have backed out - you had made the effort to travel over 100 miles to see it!

From your Newbies post I can see it has gone to a good home and is probably being more spoilt than when I had it, so credit to you!

Yes the water pump was like a kick in the n*ts, but then stuff happens!

The replacement is a week (to the day) newer but has done more miles, so who knows?

But because it has done more miles there is at least a water pump in the bank - fingers crossed!

Sometimes low usage doesn't help with longevity, but then electric components can fail at any time or never fail! We'll see how it goes!

I just really couldn't think of anything else I would want nearly as much for similar money!

You maybe should have had a try of a 350Z mind, I used to have one, and I thought it was a great car as well. Not as nimble or well handling as the Z4 but the sound it made was just fantastic... I'd argue better sounding more of the time than the Z4, which granted comes alive when you rev it... but saying that my 350 was a Roadster with an Injen induction kit and Cobra exhaust, so probably not a fair comparison, but it did sound EPIC! (think 6-cylinder Jap TVR and you wouldn't be far off). And the torque of that engine was immense. Was a bit of a heavy, agricultural beast though, but that was part of its charm for me.

Your new one does look good though.

Sorry to hear you have issues, but at least they are minor. Z4s seem to need to be sorted properly to get the best out of them.

On the topic of a 350Z the main thing that put me off was their weight - I think they are about 200kg heavier than a Z4!

Sound-wise my current one actually sounds better than most - a previous owner very kindly had the centre and rear sections of exhaust replaced with stainless, and you can definitely hear the difference! Just need to get some foam out of the sound generator next and see if that adds or detracts - I quite like the sound coming from behind!

I think the weight thing with the 350Z is overplayed a bit. They do actually feel quite heavy but I believe that is deliberate, its part of their character. The actual weight is only something like 1,500 kg or so, about the same as an E46 M3. The later ones come with 313 bhp as well so they are pretty evenly matched in a straight line. I felt like mine felt like a huge MX5 with a beastly engine
