What to do when 2 becomes 3...

What about a 130i?

It ain't an M-model, but it's still good. I was considering one before the Z4, based on it having added practicality over a Z4 but still with decent performance and a damn good engine. But then I bought a van for practical duties and have the Z4 as a toy...

Something like this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/858104.htm - seems a lot of car for the money. And I've seen cheaper/older ones too.

If I was in your situation (that f**k I'm not - I hate kids LOL) I'd probably change to a 130i.

Same problem here! Actually, we already decided!

Wife is pondering between a 1-series or a Mini Clubman (no comments on space requirements - we like to travel light!) and I'm keeping the roadster.

But.

We need a car seat which is ok for babies (reverse mounted) and can stay within a M-seat (dealer is installing the airbag deactivation key as we speak).

Any suggestions?

Don't get the clubman, it looks naff compared to a regular mini and offers no advantage other than a suppose the half door for getting the kiddy out.
The half door seemed to cause problems on the one I had as a courtesy car, the drivers side door (which has the half door in the UK) was a pain in the ass to open from the outside and at one point I had to resort to getting in the passengers side :x
I couldn't get on with the center mounted speedo either, the reflections bouncing off it kept catching the corner of my eye, very distracting.

Thanks for the tips. Keep 'em coming  Topshelf, thanks for the long indepth reply  I'd be after a saloon and not a wagon.

So far I can't come to like the A3 which just looks like a block or box to me. I see some nice looking ones but don't know what spec they are. I'll have a look into 4 door 130 and 135 models.

To me the E46 looks too dated to replace the Zed and I'm not convinced by the looks of the E90 unless it has the sportier kit (the M Sport kit?) but even then I don't like the rear bumper/lights at all. I much prefer the look of the rear of the E92/93 (coupe/convertible version) but these are only 2 doors :(

Can you get that look on a 4 door? Where can I get more info on the different models/facelifts on the E90? Some days I see one a like and others I don't like but I don't know the difference between them.

I'd love to get an M3 but the only 4 doors are the latest model and that is way out of my price league. I don't want to pay more a than a little extra above what I get for the Zed.

Please keep the suggestions coming

I wasn't sure if I liked the A3 or the 1-series but the wife doesn't like either so we've decided against them.

That only leaves a 3-series. Any tips on good specs or models for around 11 or 12k? Remember it has to be 4 door and fun to drive.

I've thought about a Saab 93 too. Has anyone here owned one?

I'm going to miss the Zed :(
Wife and I are planning a trip somewhere around the Peak district or yorkshire dales or lake district as a final trip with the car.
