my hopes of getting the Z though another year has been dashed due one of the front shocks failing. Im guessing i should replace both the shock and spring

how do i tell if i have the normal or M suspension? the difference in price is huge between the two when searching for them using the part numbers from real OEM.

You can put your vin no into a free vin decoder which will tell you all the options including the suspension fitted to your car

I had a similar question and a forum member gave me a link to an active vin-decoder...

Thanks. I’m struggling with the decoders none of them work on my iPad

From many posts it’s said all 3.0i came with m suspension. Can’t assume mine didn’t as it’s got everything else on it. Any recommendations?
I’ll replace the springs and shocks as it’s all original but I’m not looking for lowered or anything fancy just. I read somewhere b4s are a good choice?

Try this decoder site. It showed I had sport suspension which was correct along with my other options. https://www.mdecoder.com/

I am pretty sure all E85 3.0i come with M-Sport suspension (704) as standard. You may want to check this using a VIN decoder as others have said though.

In terms of suspension setup for an 3.0i with M-Sport suspension, there is no need to change the front springs if they are still in good condition, however for a small increase in total cost you may as well IMO. You should definitely be changing both sides at the same time.

I am about to do all four corners on my E85 3.0i with the following PN:
  • Front Left Shock Absorber: Bilstein B4 (22-164568)
  • Front Right Shock Absorber: Bilstein B4 (22-164575)
  • Rear Shock Absorber: Bilstein B4 (19-158983)
  • Front Coil Springs: Suplex OEM M-Sport Replacment (06248)
  • Rear Coil Springs: Suplex OEM M-Sport Replacment (06231)

I agree might as well do shock and spring at the same time. (both sides at the same time is a given and i wouldn't consider anything else)
not sure about the rears. the springs are suplex and relatively new anyway. I've put at least 2 sets on in my time.

thanks for the numbers, i don't want to go lower at all and all the kits for coilovers seems to be at least 15mm+

I'm deffo getting some rubbing at the front with the 19s i've just put on (thanks @lynchy) although the place on the liner i would say is more consistent with the outside edge of the old 18s so this could've been happening for a while.
