what spacers

hi mate. i went with 20's on the rears. long bolt through type and not threaded to the spacers so no primary mechanical connection, only secondary loading through the bolt holes and hub-to-spacer relationship held under tension, which imo is the best option as any deviation or big knock could have greater knock-on effect to the hub with the threaded type. i also reckon stress fractures could occur with the threaded due to the thinness of material in places. i might be wrong but that's just my engineer head telling me what it thinks. would make a very good ANSYS/MATLAB project perhaps?
I've got a set of 15's waiting to go on the front when the winter wheels come off but i sort of like the exaggerated stance of stock front and 20's rear, esp on the 108's.
will have to dig into the ebay history to check the make but i bought them after seeing that somebofy else here bought a pair and seemed happy with them....
you'll be reet with 15/20 on stock 18" rims but any bigger and you might get arch rubbing issues....

Thanks Chris.

A 40mm track increase at the rear relative to the front is just asking for understeer.

Thanks for the pointer...If I'm putting 20mm on the rear and 15mm on the front wouldn't the difference between front and rear track be 10mm?

Tbh, I'm not completely sold on this mod atm. Hence, doing lots of research.

I thinks this guy sums up the pros and cons.

While we're discussing spacers. Has anyone got the bolt on type, with integral thread? As opposed to spacers with longer bolts?

Seek below as pictures 'say one billion words' :)

no difference just cost more and only available 20mm +

Yes, it would be 10mm difference with 15/20. I think the car has too much understeer as standard so I did 10mm all round, mainly for increased overall grip. I think it looks just fine, 15/20 is a bit sticky outy for me but it's personal preference if you have the clearance.

I know Porsche has used spacers as small as 5mm on some of their cars from the factory and you would hope they know what their doing. I guess its more a case of what you make them from and how you manufacturer them rather than less than 10mm are too small etc

I think I'm going to go with 15mm back and front to keep everything equal.
Where did you buy your new locking wheel bolts from?

I have 18" (108s) with 20mm rear and 12mm front. I think 25mm would still look good on the back but I would not go beyond 12mm on the front.

These are the ones I have with my 107's.

Been fine the four months they have been on. I went for R 20 F 15. I went with these after Marlon used then based on a recommendation from Mr Wilks.

Good enough for me!

They look well made/good quality and were a decent enough price

I'm going to go with these
15mm all round to keep the stance balanced and not to start adding understeer.

Have to buy wheel bolts separately putting on another £48, then the locking bolts...Still waiting for a price on these.

I don't trust the ebay ones after quite a few 'scary' vids of fractures under load. I'm going to swallow the higher cost and go with H&R, the good ol' Germans.

I tend to drive quite 'spirited' especially cornering.
I need to reduce as much risk from this equation as possible. :|

15mm front 20mm rear is the usual suspect :)
Sorry to hijack the thread, but would that work for 18" staggered wheel setup?
Been thinking of spacers for a little while, but still running standard suspension.
Thanks, Daz

I ran those sized spacers with my elipsoids, no rubbing issues & filled the arches nicely :P
Rob

Hi Rob. Did the car have sport/lowered suspension?

I've got the 107 elipsoids with the B12 kit. About to buy 15mm spacers for front and back. I've had a nose under the front arch with the steering on full lock and it looks like the arch will just about accommodate the 15mm.

I have staggered 107 ellipsoids on mine, with OEM tyre sizes and fitted 15mm front 20mm rear, fill the arches out a treat and looks LOTS better.

I have the M Sport suspension and don't get ANY rubbing or catching whatsoever.

Thanks Mike. What size are your front tires?

Thanks Mike. That's the same tyre setup as mine. That's helped me make my decision. 15mm spacer all round.

Yes a little on the front but only on the largest bumps. This was greatly reduced by placing the wheel arch liner behind the front bumper instead of in front of it. I know that might not make sense but if you look at your car you will see what I mean. Its still there though a little on road humps/ big dips etc. However I am running M spec tyres which are a little taller than standard and my geo is out at the moment since fitting new front wishbone bushes. I not used the car much at all over winter, its done something like 30 miles since November and I have been holding off doing the geo until I get the B12 on there. I was waiting to see once the kit is on and I have manipulated the arch liner with a heat gun if I could still get away with 15mm on the front or if i need to move to 12 or 10mm
