What sort of fuel?

Hello everyone! I'm new here as you can see. I was just wondering what sort of fuel you prefer to use in your Z4's?
I personally think my 3.0 Si runs best on Shell V-Power. I have tried a lot of the premium fuels and find that my car just seems to run that little bit smoother on it.
 
This kind of thread has been done many times before, I tend to use Tesco 99 or Shell V Power. Not sure if it's in my head but I think I can feel a small diffrence vs premium.

I agree( the head thing)! Every now and then I put redex in the 316i I used to have, always felt it done the car good, as for the zed ? should I
 
only had it a month, but its been whichever petrol station suits - so far has included sainsburys, asda and bp, all regular unleaded.

Should i go to high octane? I do a fair few miles (around a tank per week, maybe a little more) so price difference adds up - going to try it though somewhen as have seen people saying that super unleaded gives more mpg to make up for cost ... any truth in that?

if it just makes it go a bit faster/smoother, not worth it for me day to day, as cruising on mway or A roads at around 50, accelerating hard isn't that frequent.
 
Always use 98octane. usually go for q8/pace,which i prefer to shell,etc. just my personal preference :driving:
 
Until recently I filled vpower but the climb in price has made hard to justify the extra cost. I thought it ran a little smoother on vpower, economy is about the same for me.
 
I've never used regular fuel in my Z4 so I can't comment from personal experience but I have read some academic journal articles that show high octane fuel increases power (slightly) and economy. The effect is increased significantly on racing tuned engines.
e.g. They tested on a European 2006 Ford Fiesta 1.25 - there was an increase of around 5-6 bhp and around 5 mpg. They then tested on a European 2006 Honda S2000 (race-tuned naturally aspirated) - there was an increase of around 13bhp and 9 mpg! They also tested a European 2006 Ford Focus ST (race-tuned, Turbo charged engine) - There was an increase of almost 20bhp! and 9 mpg!
 
I've been using Tesco 99 or Momentum as it's called now for 6 months or so.

When I first started I saw an increase in displayed MPG as well as range, but both have gradually reduced. I've put that down to the cold weather though.
 
Another vote for Shell V-Power. It felt like it made a difference when I switched over so I stuck with it. Plus Shell supply the fuel for F1.
 
May be worth doing a search as this has come up before. I uses V Power. Did I read in one threead that it has better injector cleaning properties? Only used Tesco 99 once and fule pump made a lot of noise, so not been back.
