Subject: Australia - Second Time he has done this

He's done it again..
He sure isn't backing down on his hard line stance and one has to appreciate his belief in the rights of his native countrymen.
A breath of fresh air to see someone lead.
I wish some leaders would step up in Canada, USA and Britain.

Australian Prime Minister does it again!!

This man should be appointed chief advisor to the World.. Truer words have never been spoken.
It took a lot of courage for this man to speak what he had to say for the world to hear.
The retribution could be phenomenal, but at least he was willing to take a stand on his and Australia's beliefs.
Whole world needs a leader like this!

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.
Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote:
'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.. Take It Or Leave It.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.' [/img]

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

^^^ Ditto
But it will never happen in the UK none of the MP's or whoever becomes PM here have a backbone, stand up for the indigenous people of this country then everyone classes you as racist.
The aussie pm is not been racist but just saying is you abide by customs and not the other way round and what is wrong with that absolutely nothing.

WOW somebody in power actually saying what the majority of British people believe about immigration

Just to throw a controversial wobbler into the mix........... wasn't it the British Empire that marched around the world imposing its own morals and religion on people abroad? Not to excuse what is happening today in the UK, but might put things into perspective. I am not a weird beard left leaning Mr Left from Lefty Street, Lefty Town............but I do think we have a lot to answer for. I like to take a deep breath before talk about this sort of thing.

My family fled mainland Europe to escape persecution, they worked hard, and spoke English. If it wasn't for the welcoming bosom of London, I wouldn't be here today. I am proud that we are welcoming and far more tolerant than hitherto. Things move on.......demographics I think it is called.

I welcome some aspects of immigration, but not all of it. People have always feared those from the other side of the hill....it's an atavistic psychosis.

No it is not racist to discuss this issue, intelligently, but I think there is a lot of intemperate language that attracts flag of St George waving skin head BNP types, rabble rousing even.

So................

I agree with you Petach...we once had the largest empire there has ever been and in our own way we pillaged and plundered most of it, then cleared off when there was nothing left or we'd outstayed our welcome.

We owe a lot of people....but then you have to sympathise with the sentiment of the post  Ghettoism/segregation causes problems-simple as that.

here here Petach...
What the majority seem to forget, is that we're all immigrants! As are the Australians, Americans... pretty much everyone. We have no claim over this land, nor should we in my opinion. It's a lump of rock, who's to say who can and can't live on it? Personally, I welcome the diversity of lots of cultures and peoples.

What I don't welcome, however, is people moving into other countries and making no effort to integrate into the community (or actively avoiding it!). If you're going to live in another country, you should definitely at least try and speak the language. Learn (and respect) the local customs and laws (lost count of the amount of times my sister's car's been hit by an immigrant in London, with no insurance :x )... and that goes for Englishmen moving abroad too.

Watching those telly programs ("a place in the sun" and the like) where you see a couple looking to move to Spain and saying things like "nah, there's too many spaniards in this taaaahn... we wanna go to an English community, somewhere you can get fish n'chips" makes me cringe so much; stay in blighty then!

It'd be great if we could all travel to wherever we wanted, say "ooh, I like it here" and set up a home. Integrate with the locals, be accepted and all live in a happy world of rainbows and cupcakes. I am of course, not naive enough to think that would ever be possible, but you'd think we, as a supposedly civilised forward country could accept other cultures.

That said, those that come here and expect our public services to serve them in their language, or expect to be able to wear a Burka for their drivers license picture (!)... get out! go on, bugger off!

  You must have been to Majorca ... I was there a few years ago and almost cried when I saw the "Anglification" of Las Palmas (speaking as a Brit who emigrated to Canada from the UK before most of you, were born, except Kryton :D )

Good debate - I welcome diversity but with tolerance and understanding not the imposition of someone else’s will. I support Tweeds comments that people should integrate into a community where mutual respect and understanding will be the social glue that bonds the community to a common good. Watching TV programmes like a 'Place in the Sun' is hopefully not representative of those who make no effort to integrate into a local community but a bit of TV nonsense. Fortunately I am not part of a British Empire that marched round the world imposing its own morals and will on others - and neither are the majority of immigrants who enter a country part of a minority of their countrymen who choose fear and violence - aka terrorism - to further their cause. History does not set a precedent by which to judge this or future generations as Petach would suggest but from which current generations can learn from the mistakes (and in some cases the success) of the actions of our forefathers. Perhaps the key point and message of the RUDD speech (spoof or not) is this:

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

Just like we, who choose to drive the 'superior' Zed Roadster accept will tolerance and understanding those who choose to drive the lesser Coupe......

Now, this is what I call intelligent debate. I hate tub thumping rhetoric. Morning Alan, I wasn't judging our role in history (it is impossible to overlay our modern morals on those of the past (ie. apologising for slavery)....I was saying that our history has actually impacted on current affairs.

Yeah, Brits abroad make me cringe sometimes with their breathtaking arrogance. When I go to France I speak as much of the language as I can, I don't shout and add an "O" to the end of each word. I find then that the French (notoriously off'ish if you don't try) actually are pleased and surprised you made the effort and come out of their shell. If they speak English to me, I ask them to speak French so I can try to understand tone and inflection. On the other hand, I know of a Londoner who moved to Salcombe in South Devon and 10yrs later was still known as the woman from London!

Yes please to tolerance and understanding and intelligent debate. Yes to integration without having to lose your own identity as a quid pro quo. A big no to uneducated, knee jerk, outbursts.

By the way, my home town in flooded with non Z4 owners, I think I will have to move out!

I have a French buddy who confirms that the French are FAR worse than we are when abroad and expecting the locals to speak french and making no effort to speak the language of the country they are visiting. We are pretty bad as a nation though, and if you are planning to live in another country, you really should learn the lingo, it's common decency.
