what should the SPORT button REALLY DO??

after a thread on ph about the sport button it got me thinking, on a proper supercar bating car like the z4m what should the sport button really have done. my top three are!!!

1) Allowed dynamic mode T/C with greater levels on slip before it cuts in but still has safety net.
2) active exhaust valves- when sport is activated it allows a free flow route exhaust gas which gives an other worldly exhaust note!
3)155 mph delimit in sportmode!

i no i no im getting carried away but imo bmw really missed a trick not making the sport button a real event, a button for those special occasions (i would have used it everyday) bmw really should utilised the sport mode to make the car uber awesome!!

seems as tho were in the land of nod what do you think of my sport button wishes and what would you have done with the sport button if you cud go back in history and put in your 2ps worth!!

Name your top three sport button wish list?!!!???!!!!??

The sport button should:
  • lower the car by an inch
  • tighten the suspension up
  • swap all the body panels out for carbon fibre ones
  • put CSL wheels with sticky rubber on
  • add a carbon intake á la M3 CSL
  • change the seats into Recaro Pole Positions, along with 5-point harnesses
  • change the gearbox into a DCT one

Other than that, I think it's perfect.

IMHO the sport button should do the fast and furious 'NOS' button thing and make the whole world blur around you..

lower and tighten suspension!!! thats a good one!!

the nos thing would be good but imagine the restraint youd need!!!

it should inflate a life sized Sporty Spice inflatable doll in the passenger seat and change whatever tune is playing on the stereo to "if you want to get with me, ya gotto get with my friends".......or whatever that nasty but slightly catchy old SPice Girls song went like.

Excuse my sillyness, had little sleep last night :headbang:

I think the sport button is fine as it is but unlimiting the car sounds good but who would ever really hit that 155 anyway.. In the 3.0 I`d prefer the steering heavier when the button is pressed - I can hardly feel a differnce.

Personally it should be wired to be on by default, and a direct link from the alternator to the button as punishment for those who try to turn it off :D

It should do what the M button does on the current M5, add another 100bhp, a head up display on the windscreen, with all hell breaking loose

When you pressed the 'sport' button-
a big 'M' would appear on the splash screen
a siren would sound then say 'warning 'M' sport mode engaged'
Exhaust would open valves for full 100 db sound
car would drop a couple of inches
and all hell would break loose!!

It should engage the two KKK turbochargers fitted to the 911 (993) Turbo for serious bit of extra whhooooooossshhh!

Actually i'm with Toplad, it'd be good if it did something decent instead of making a jumpy, highly strung, over urgent and nasty to drive car.

I love the 'sport' button! Since I had the straight through exhaust fitted the 'sport' setting seems to sharpen the exhaust note and the car really flies. Much more noticable than it was as stock. Or so my built in dyno and db gauge tell me when I press the loud pedal :)

What should it do? I was just think the same thing the other day after a nice drive.

Realistically speaking i'd like to go with a somewhat looser DSC and open exhausts valves for even sweeter noise as well as a shift up light when you almost reach 8k RPM.

Other options include: Firing of missiles, full aerokit and suspension modification a-la Taxi, filling up with high octane fuel automagically, making the passenger stop whining, glowing BMW roundels and M badges, flames popping out of the exhausts everytime you press it and.. that's all i got at the moment.

An Eject button for those passengers who keep complaining about how hard the ride is. This is not a Lexus, stfu.
