what should oil\engine temp be sitting at ?

I noticed the oil\engine temp guage was near 100 degrees today, which stuck me as odd as the weather was 23 degrees and I wasn't driving aggressively.

Previously the guage has gotten that high after track\motorkhana work.

The car is also dripping from mid way underneath for a few months now, which I had put down to air conditioner (based on similar forum posts) but I wonder now if its leaking coolant or something?

There are no warning lights showing on the car.

Going to take it to the dealer under warranty, but would appreciate any comments\suggestions as I don't trust them.
 
where was it 23 ! u lucky bugger its ok your temp is fine and the leakage is as per your search the condenser from the climate control but if you are worried and its under warranty then by all means get your moneys worth and have the bmw boys have a gander and merry xmas
 
My oil temp has never gotten above 220F/105C even during the summer with some spirited driving... :driving:
Water temp is pretty much always around 175F/80C...
 
If your concerned about the dripping then try checking the coolant level! The dripping is part and parcel of aircon and I know mine does drip a hell of a lot, if it looks clear just like water then it is'nt coolant as that will have a hint of colour. My temp with spirited driving during summer will see tit nudge close to 100 and its never been an issue.
 
As above really.. 75 deg it can sit at on a cool, long run, but in traffic in summer, or after a session on track, I've seen the temp just nudge past 100....

Doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about though.
 
mines the same as sixspeeds really but im sure i did see 105 this year at a trackday, on the day it was 29 so really hot, infact thats the only time ive ever heard my cooling fans come on, and they stayed on for ages!

LOL at really hot. Its going to be really hot tomorrow - 34 degrees. Was 46 degrees in Feb.

I won't be taking the car out in the hot weather til I get it checked. Its leaving drip marks on the ground that don't evaporate.
 
zeddy its all relative in the uk 29 is hot!! lol and if we do get hotter it very rarely last long!!
