What should i buy.

Just stick to main roads as recovery trucks have issues getting down country lanes ... :P

Hi again.
Had a wee drive in a z4m today. The bloke who ownes it was kind enough to give me a blast for about 5 mins. Very nice machine, however he informs me the the running costs are killing him. His previous car was a 2007 3.0si and if he had the chance he would revert back to it due to the high servicing and fuel consumption not to mention the impending road tax hike. This has made my mind up to go for a 2007 3.0. Is there anything i should be looking out for regarding problems or should i use my existing knowledge of 2.2 z4 ownership when selecting a used example?

What do ya all think of this?
I know the colour might no be to everyones liking but i think it looks superb.

Old Boxsters look a bit dated now. The 987 3.2S ones are worth waiting for I think. Much nicer interiors!

Why not just get a 3.0Si Z4 Coupe for a year or two? Will hold value better than the Roadster I rekon, be something a bit different, then sell up and pick up a 987 3.2S with decent spec in a few years :)

I know what you mean about the interior thats a point i noted. The car in the picture is minted. 24k not a mark on either the exterior or the interior. I just fancy a wee change, still looking.

So the advice is sell his 2.2 for next to nothing considering 4 new tyres and a service have to be a grand, buy a 3.0 z4 for I dunno 10-11k, sell that in a couple years for maybe 6 or 7k and get a 3.2 boxster thats a bit faster?

Id say stick with the 2.2 for what you stand to lose, although being shown up off of the lights by a scirocco isnt a good look.

In my vast  or limited experience only 1 car has ever had the legs on me and that was an evo 7, if it were against the lights I wouldve probably got him but I was following in the overtaking lane, tbh he didnt exactly make a santa pod start I had to back off in 2nd gear which meant he pulled a gap out cos he mustve hit 3rd and got on the power, I knew I was always gonna be outclassed in that situation tho but 110% effort as always

I understand the worries on the running costs of the Z4M, but aren't Porkers notorious for being money pits?

Never have any problem with the ride in my M. Other things get to me from time to time (gears, CDV) but never the ride.

If running costs are such a concern, buy a cheap 1.5 litre car.

Seriously, if the running costs are deemed to high for you, don't buy the car.

The M is that much fun - who cares how much it costs to run. Its not like its a Range Rover. (That one hurts my hip pocket)

Cheers for all the input people. Car washed and waxed this morning. Man they are still ace looking cars. Still can'd decide what to do. Was offered £9500 againt a £20000 Boxster. Do you think thats a fair price?

Is the Boxster from Porsche Dealer? Price for part exchange is very good.

Which £20k Boxster? Might be way over priced itself. Running costs on the M arent that bad, its all relative to the miles you will be doing. My M sees 25-26mpg on mixed driving, my Focus ST did that!!

Go for the porsche, i think you have made your mind up to move away from the Z.

Do not think you will find it any cheaper to run than an M, but you could be driving an M a few years younger than a boxster for the same cash outlay and if you buy from a bmw dealer you will get a years warranty which will give you peace of mind (mine has already paid for itself).

Give the Boxster a go, it is a lovely car, i looked at several before i bought the M. I said i would never drive a BMW (lots of bmw drivers, in our co that are complete *******, none are Z though, they do seem a much nicer bunch than your average BMW driver) until i tired the M and even a slow drive into leicester city centre today still had me smiling. The M should be replaced with a big S for smile :D

Go on bite the bullet and do the trade in - we might see you back here in a year when you come back to the Z.

I think I may break your perception of Z drivers not being w4nke5rs  I think it is normally M3 drivers tho like you say.

Personally I dont think I would go for a Boxster after a Z, Id much sooner put that 20k to a Lotus Exige S, I reccon another 12 months or so thats what I'll be getting anyway.

So there you go a good second hand buy for someone a 3.0 with hardtop and new tyres - neither of which add to the residual value of the car so :x for me but could be :D for someone.

Well i am still in the market for the correct car. Going today to lok at a 2005 boxster s 3.2. Black. 45k. £20000. Any advice?

Today i purchased my 1st Porsche. A boxster 3.2 2006 in black. Will be sorry to see the Z go but i fancied a wee change. I joked to the salesman that if i don't like it i will be selling it and buying a Z4m in a few months. I could be back.
