What service do I need to book in for?

Despite the service indicator saying a service isn't due for another 7000 miles, it's now coming up to 2 years (6000 miles) since it was last serviced. So as I understand it, the oil, break fluid and possibly the coolant need changing despite what the serivce indicator is saying.

The car has done 21000 from new in 2003. When does an inspection 1 service get done? Once the indicator ticks down the 7000 miles to next service it's showing now?

Should be. My Inspection I was done at a little over 25,000 miles :)

Ok. So I just need an "oil service" now and the inspection 1 when the indicator says so?

If your car is under warranty, you should bring it to BMW every year. I brought mine in last month (after a year to the day) and I only had 4800 miles on it at the time. They replaced the oil, etc.

If you're out of warranty, I'd bring it for an oil change every year. I don't care what the computer says in this regard. :)

Not sure I agree with that.

Most newer cars now have variable servicing - and personally I would say have an annual one with so little mileage is pretty much false economy. Mines 15 months old, just under 7k and I've not had anything done yet. Will do so by the end of the year.

Each to their own though.

I thought Z4's had distance and time based service requirements same as E46's

Oil, Inspection I and Inspection II are distance based, and coolant and brake fluid are time based, two years for collant and four for brake fluid IIRC
