What price peace of mind ?

Turns out it's about £200.
As a newbie, and reading about the failure of DISA valves on the forum, I decided to check mine. It was bust, flapping all over the place with no resistance. So get one from the local breakers, get a repair kit or get a new one ? Couldn't find one at the breakers and I would end up with something that might fail tomorrow. Wasn't convinced by the kits on eBay and would have to wait for delivery. So I bought a new one from the local dealer. Fitted it and the probable noisy hydraulic lifter(s) disappeared :thumbsup: . Could be my imagination but the car does seem to have a bit more "grunt" , the power delivery seems smother and the engine sounds much better. Result.
 
Did they give you an original spec DISA (orange markings) or the facelift DISA with yellow markings?

Or can you not mix them?
 
I think the only colour on it was the rubber seal and that was orange. The original part also had orange seals, so I' going to assume it's the right part ...... I hope........ Seems to work ok!!

Can I ask why you were not convinced about the eBay kit? It is much cheaper than replacing the Disa and it fixes the inherent faults with the original design that can lead to the pin dropping out of the end of the unit and into the intake manifold? I fitted this kit today and it works very well...

Either way I'm glad you're happy with the result!

Probably far too risk adverse. I wasn't sure about the quality of the product. Couldn't source one from any of the usual motor factors, so assumed the part was a bit specialist. Most importantly wanted the car back on the road quickly, so I have paid a price for my impatience as well. You can't take it with you :D

My facelift DISA had green rubber on it I think ? But it is possible that the units themselves are slightly different as the engines differ between pre and post-facelift.

Hehe fair enough mate! If (god forbid!) you do have to work on the Disa again I can assure you the repair kit is of good quality and does the job really well :)

That is correct mate. The M54 Disa units have red/orange seals, the N52 seals are green.
 
Can I confirm that the old M54 Disa had red/orange rubber. And the new updated unit rubber is yellow ?

Just checked my unit and it had the red /orange rubber and is working fine with no play.

Just wondering if its working fitting the kit still.
