Just wondering what mp3 players people are using with the aux in? and also where are you mounting/storing the player.

obviously as there is no way to skip or select music via the car controls it needs to be close by or come with a remote,

im open to suggestions on a good mp3 player to use

I know it's slightly off topic but have you tried burning some MP3's onto a CD and playing them through your OEM BMW changer? - I think anything after a 54 plate will play them...

I plug my iPod in. Just use the headphone/speaker out and plug it into the aux in. Works great, but as you said, I can't control from the headunit or wheel.

Iv got one of the new little sony ones, its 8 gig which is enough to get a fair old bit of music on, its easy to use and the battery lasts ages.

iPod nano 8Gb but isnt connected directly to the AUX socket...

I have a power extension lead that gives me a further 3 sockets which I have routed into the glovebox, then I have one of these: Belikn lead plugged into one of the outlets with the ipod dock connector fed back into the ash tray area where I plug the ipod in. Advantage is that the sound gets amplified and the iPod is charged :D.

All visible cables coil up and hide underneath the ashtray cover :D

the aux lead is plugged into the lead for the ipod - kinda hard to explain :P

I use my Nokia N95 8GB (soon to be an N97!!). It gives a good, clear signal, although the very high treble notes (i.e. cymbals) can be a little tinny.

I sit it on the ash tray flap, and the rubberised finish holds it in place. I connect it to the AUX-IN socket with one of these.

i only have a cd head unit should that work?

IIRC the rule of thumb is if the head unit is grey then no, if black then yes.

i have a 07 coupe so im guessing im in luck, does the head unit support tags if mp3s are on cd?
yep & yep !

i have a sony ericsson p1i which i sometimes use.. but for most of the time mp3 cd's have done me very well :)

I use an ifone or sometimes a nano.
I have a 36" cable that I run from the aux plug down out of sight and along the transmission tunnel ( under the plastic) then flip it up after the armrest.
The ifone fits nicely in the little storage insert behind the armrest.
To change tracks I just pick it up and adjust / replace
